I've heard him say (jokingly) in an interview that they "custom build" them for him in Indonesia LOL! He did say that he does have them rewired so the tone control is connected to the bridge pickup. I've done this to my MIM Strat and it's a great little DIY mod anyone can do. :)

I just bought a affinity jazzmaster with the two point trem, like the strat. It’s got ceramic pups right now but A5 pups are coming and I installed a full size block that I spent an hour exactly grinding to achieve full action of the wiggle stick. That’s all I’m changing cause this guitar just rocks. Actually these pups are fine, there’s really no reason to change them. Much Love People…. Keep on Rockin in the Free World

Great demo - it sure sounds great when you play it! Thanks for the review and your thoughts on this guitar. I bought one in September 2021, have played it a lot in the 10 months since then. Other than a ringing harmonic issue with the g string (which was easily fixed ), this is a very good looking and sounding guitar. And the neck/fingerboard are SO comfortable to play on. For $299.99 in the US, this was a steal, as far as I'm concerned. I love your videos - and especially like that you try the guitars out in a band, which most reviewers don't do (or at least don't show).

Great video Shane. There is something about entry level guitar pickups (I don't want to call these guitars cheap) sometimes you can get amazing sounds that you didn't expect. Can't say i liked this guitar's sound much but it was definitely better than i expected. I must say the neck pickup had a sweet sound. I once had a Gretsch Streamliner and the pickups were just amazing i even tried another guitar of the same model in the same store and another Gretsch that was twice as expensive but the it didn't sound the same, in fact it was nothing close. I read in an interview a longtime ago (Guitar World if i'm not mistaken) that Scott Ian of Anthrax once visited a music store while on tour and picked up one of his entry level signature Jackson guitar for fun and was amazed by its sound that he bought it and played it live on tour along with his custom shop guitars. Here's what I really don't get about these Squier Affinity guitars. Yes the body is cheap but the fretboard is rosewood. Even the Mexican made Fenders don't have rosewood fretboards now they have Pau Fero instead 😀

I have one in the Arctic White. While the stock pick-ups were OK, I did find them a little bland personally. I didn't get anywhere near that gnarly sound that you described on the middle pickup position! Upgraded with a Fender Pre-Wired Strat Pickguard with Tex-Mex SSS pickups, and also added Fender locking tuners. Sounds killer now.

Guys , recently I checked several guitars 250€ up to 1000€ range. These affinity series simply swipe other guitars in the price range or even some above. Very well set up, The ceramic pick ups give great high output sound. They really sound good and not like cheapos. Nice finishes. MIM strats are 3 times more expensive but not really way ahead of the aff. squiers. Great series. Well done. They surpass to my opinion guitars like Ibanez or Vintage in the similar price range. MIM will be step up but with much less output pick ups and actually much more reserved sound than squier. I tested them head to head.

@@TLGElectro = Funny that you mentioned "a cream scratchplate" Back in Dec'/Jan early 2001, I bought an amazing U.S.A Stratocaster Brand new from "Peter Cook's Guitar World", it cost just £663.00** **cheap as chips, then, for a USA Strat', but at a really curious price !!!! Thing that puzzled me was, it was a "Parchment" coloured pickguard Looks like a cross between "paper & cream", but it suits the guitar, well. Also, from new, the dials/switches etc were also "Parchment" (Seemed to be all the rage, back then !!!!!) The EXACT same guitar ("American Series") was £995 at my local store I naturally figured that I'd drive to Hanwell W7 & save a whopping £330 !!!! Sounds nice and stratty. I am hearing this after your review of the Classic Vibe 70s HSS Strat. The Affinity comes across as a bit more thin sounding. Still, I have an Affinity that I bought for $65 US from the classified ads. I have no fears with it- learned to do neck adjustment, set up, changed tuners and it does everything a strat should. Mine has a sleek satin maple neck and fingerboard. I even had to re-set a few frets. For all I know it could sound terrible to the rest of the world, but I love it.

I can 'only' comment on the (back then), brand new Indonesian made 1999/2000 Squire Affinity Stratocaster that I bought (new) - It was a truly FANTASTIC instrument (only some of the hardware is/was a bit 'cheap') - First used it one the same night (gig), in front of 900+ people & used it for the 1st-half of set. Folks came up to me (at 1/2-time) & were STUNNED it was "just a cheap Squire" I used my 1999 (again, brand-new), Olympic White USA Strat' for the 2nd-half & noted that the pick-ups were a little quieter in output & not quite as shrill. Nonetheless, it was (& still is), a FANTASTIC instrument for the money..... AND.... Truthfully, it has "no right" to be as good as it is, if price were a deciding factor This, coming from me, a guy who owns SIX Stratocasters..... FIVE of those ARE full-blown U.S.A (expensive) models & just the one, lone "cheap strat", the Indonesian one - very much worth buying as the "fit & finish" were truly SUPERB - Only the 'cheap' hardware (saddles & tuning-keys) are worth criticising AND if necessary replacing - I was most impressed & still own it, today

I like the fact the Indonesian model is made of Alder whereas the Vibe series are made of Poplar at almost double the price. Don't get it. Isn't Alder a more harder and resonant wood than Poplar? I do prefer the ash wood of my old 70's Strat. My only negative comment is that the Affinity Strat is more thin sounding, however can be adjusted with the amp or a equalizer pedal. They are a lot easier to acquire than the Affinity Stones. lol

New Squier Affinity Series strats are poplar. Older ones were alder though.

I had an older Squier given to me when I first started playing YEARS AGO! Sounded NOTHING like this. I got the guitar in the same color as this one with a Peavey Studio Pro 112 amp from the early 90s! Ahhh memories!

A Strat sounds like a Strat regardless of price (usually). But when it comes to feel and playability that's another thing. Having said that, my daughter's Affinity Strat feels at least as comfortable to play as my American Standard (okay, maybe even a little better actually) so you don't always have to pay a lot to get a lot.

I just reserved the Shoreline Contemporary Telecaster - seems like Fender may be listening to people; 12” radius, jumbo frets, great saddles, shaved neck joint, reversed switch cover, 5 way switch... we’ll see. Funny to see you wearing a sweatshirt :) 116 F hear yesterday!!

Is 116 F normal where you live? Here in Canada we had 121 F in Lytton, BC a week and a half ago and believe me, that is _not_ normal for any place in Canada! In fact, it is a record high. Then Lytton caught fire and burnt down over the night of June 30 to July 1. We're all a bit freaked out over that because July 1 is Canada Day, the same as American independence day.

@@ToddSauve - oh my gosh man, that’s terrible. Sorry to hear that, reminds of when Australia burnt last year... fire sucks, lack of water and/or other resources suck... clean air, etc LOL, not funny really but that I’m considering clean air and plenty of water a luxury strikes me as odd. NO, 116 is NOT normal for us. California Sierra foothills usually have a week of 100+ degree days but they peak around 104-6. Oregon had several record breaking days last week as well. Maybe there is something to this global warming after all...?

@@oldguyjammin9732 I live in Calgary, Alberta and at that same time we had 98 F. That is not super-unusual but not at all something you can bank on here in the summer. I still don't buy global warming. It just still seems like a scam the scientific community is working on the world so they can pump tax dollars out of the taxpayer. Maybe I'm just getting old, I'm 63, but I've seen so much baloney come out of "scientists" over the course of my life. Back in the 1970s they insisted we were all heading into a new ice age. Now every weird place in the universe is "probably harbouring some form of life." So many of them are a pack of hucksters, with the government and media on their side getting everyone hyped up. Anyway, I hope you have a good summer in California!

Am I the only one who thinks Shane giving the music store the guitar came from free advertising is worth them just telling him to keep the guitar? Several plugs on a decent size KZfaq channel that can be streamed in perpetuity isn't worth $200? Sticky...

@Vasiljev Vasiljevski well I think its worth it. You get pretty much everything as Fender Mexican series. I mean 42mm nut, 2-point tremolo, ceramic pickups, even flamed maple top... Well you can also say its the same as Squier Standard that have been discontinued for som years now :D a thin body is a feature for me. I don't like heavy guitars. I had Fender Player strat but always loved more to play on old affinity. If you don't have a guitar won't you say its totally worth the money to buy the refresh model?

Hi InTheBlues, congratulations for the video !! I ask you, what are the differences between this model and the 2019/2020 model? myself guitar but bought in 2020. The guitar used in the demo has undergone some changes (pickups, setup, locking machine?). I understand that accompanied by a good amp, the result is not bad at all, do you have any advice on this? Thank you !!!
