Somehow missed news of a new release, but such a nice surprise to find this! made my week. Another brilliant album from Axel Wilner. Really loving the more textured/ambient influence on this. I can see myself playing this a lot, it's the sort of music that helps settle the mind.

The Field kinda reminds me of Luomo's Vocalcity. Both are masters in their respective genres.

I still repeat this album to this day, I too miss the samples like his older tracks. I saw him in Manchester in 2018 and he told me "never sample, it's the devils work" or something along those lines anyway. I guess it's risky knowing he got away with using Coldplay's The Scientist for his track Silent and Lionel Ritchie's Hello for his track A Paw In My Face.

that's fascinating, wonder what he meant by that i wouldn't imagine he'd have gone through legal troubles since his stuff usually fell under fair use; they were certainly transformative enough works to to be considered as much. but i guess that doesnt mean corporations or whatever will necessarily give a shit

He also used Kate Bush - Under Ice extensively on Over the Ice. I think he means to avoid letting a sample take over to where the track is basically a cover instead of a significant creative departure.

This is a great album, but I miss the hardness of some of the old ones like Nordic Light Hotel and Looping State of Mind. This feels a lot more chill like The Follower which was fine, but I just miss the unique hard loops which are impossible to find from any similar artist. The Field is truly a genre of his own.
