As a newish (last 3-4 years) backcountry skier I feel pretty confident that this series has saved lives. Modelling proper behavior is more powerful than we may give credit and you and Bjarne's consistent will to turn around and NOT ski the line when it's not appropriate (Mt Superior, Split, many others) is strong antidote to summit fever and the near ubiquitous attitude to "just send it". Thanks for the show of strength and humility.

@jakecohen5739
@jakecohen5739 3 ай бұрын
@@houstonbuffalo4514 I don't think that's it, I think it's more that the last 4 lines are all so serious and so weather dependent that they didn't want the requirement of making episodes to lead them into a sense that they had to keep trying every year. Hopefully, we'll all watch Cody finally get Comstock and St. Elias someday, and maybe he'll manage to ski Robson and University. But I assume he wants to abandon the burden of making it part of the series and just try to ski them if and when he can. Like he said, though, it's not the end of the project, just the end of regular episodes. I think it'll be all the more amazing when we see him crush one of those four lines when it randomly drops in 3, 4, or 5 years!

@jakecohen5739 yeah seems like a story they've chosen not to tell. I respect that, maybe a project like this is always destined to end this way. Or maybe there will be a mind blowing comeback in a years time. If so, I'll be waiting to watch. Been great having this project over the years to follow.

I think my favorite part of the whole series has been getting to know Bjarne Salen. The lines, the friends, the epicness, everything else about this project is almost beyond description. And yet, getting to know the guy behind the lens for so much of it, the guy who's been there with Cody the whole time, with his extra dry sense of humor, has been the most rewarding to me. It hasn't just been Cody's project to me, it's been Cody and Bjarne's project. Its only fitting the last shot of this episode is a hug between you two! Thanks so much for everything over the past five years, fellas. It's been an amazing show!!

My most anticipated video so far, looks like it might be the last episode? Pretty sure he flew out to Mt Saint-Elias last season but maybe wasn't worth putting an ep together for it... Going to miss the series, it brings joy, one of the best on YT. My ideal scenario is Cody and Bjarne make their own fifty best lines they want to ski in North America and go get them. As someone that has never been there, I love seeing the scenery, travelling and cool mountains over there. The first two seasons were great as there was an episode every week or so. It would be cool if they went back to doing more lines per season, Cody is great at telling a story so I wouldn't care if the lines are super easy and not spectacular.

First off, thank you for the kind words. So appreciated. While I would love to be producing weekly episodes like we did in year one, I can tell you there is no way I could handle that workload again. It was the single most stressful, difficult and exhausting year of my life. Bjarne and I lived on the road for 5 months straight, were simultaneously publishing, editing and making episodes on top of each other. I almost burned myself out entirely after one year of it...plus now, I have a son added into life. So the focus moving forward will still be adventuring, skiing and making films, but just focused more on quality as opposed to quantity. Thank you.

@@CodyTownsend - These types of choices are what I've appreciated most about the overall 50 project. The times you and Bjarne agonize over pushing the last 100ft to reach the summit vs turning back to go home safe, and now, choosing to say, "No" because life isn't feeding the KZfaq Audrey Jr (Little Shop of Horrors). The heart expressed throughout as you grapple with growing into new responsibilities and priorities really resonates with me as an adventurer, and something that's lost on the the vast majority of content consumers. I'm excited that you're stepping back while you're ahead, and choosing a life that keeps you and your family team stoked on the encompassing totality of life's abundance! Look forward to what's next, and thankfully for how much you've given already.

I think eventually this series will come to be regarded as one of the most important chronicles of skiing that exists. As poor as the conditions may have been for some of the descents, it very well might be the best footage we will ever see of those routes. This has been my favorite series of ski-related videos. Period. Full stop. The touring & skiing notwithstanding, it has been the human factor which has been the best part. The preparation, the openness regarding the challanges, the willingness to accept that Nature dictates & man humbly concedes, Cody's goofy humor & Bjorne's dry wit playing off each other, the various characters that have accompanied them all came together to result in an incredible series. But what I most liked was Cody's willingness to make Bjorne an equal.partner on this adventure, even as he was the "face" of the project. His respect for Bjorne is evident. Gentlemen, I hope you will bring us more epic content in the near future. Meanwhile, I guess we'll have to rewaych The Fifty all over again! Peace!

I've loved every minute of this series. You and Bjarne could film The Fifty Classic Bunny Slopes of North America and I'd watch it. Your first touring experience 20 years ago is so similar to my first touring experience a few years prior to yours. The fun, passion, inexperience, and bravado of youth,... and the stupidity, ignorance, and sheer luck. Being amongst it hooked me, and I've been learning ever since. Dropped out of touring because of a few hard losses; I wasn't involved, but lost several good friends in several incidences. Days when I was "Mr. Safety" and decided it wasn't my day to go out for a walk, and both the relief and the guilt were crushing. Eventually got back into touring, after a while. To paraphrase conversations I've had with MikeD, skiing is not worth dying for. And I'm still here doing it, and a mix of touring and resort is something I'm going to do, to continue to do, for as long as I possibly can. Thank you Cody and Bjarne. It's been a trip.

Thanks Cody, Bjarne & your teams for many hours of great content and congrats on achieving so many difficult descents. I'm sure for you guys, doing that specific list of 50 peaks was (and is) a an important goal, but for a viewer like me I could care less about the list. What made it special and different from all the other ski p*rn out there was the people in the episodes and watching them react to varying conditions, environments, and challenges. The planning, approach, camping, (biking), was just as interesting to watch as the descents, regardless of outcome. Just started re-watching the episodes now that the ski season is winding down in CA, and looking forward to seeing more from your channel, whatever it may be. Thanks again!

Getting strong Kenny Rodgers "Gambler" vibes from this video description. You've got to know when to hold 'em Know when to fold 'em Know when to walk away And know when to run Loved the series, sad it's done "for now" but been great to vicariously experience all these lines and the effort to get them.
