Drae, that big wall of radar towers wasn't a listening station. it was an early warning detection system for incoming Nukes. gotta love the cold war.

The Duga System aka: The Russian Woodpecker. From what I gather it’s a site to behold. Massive radar system and back in the 80s, if you listened at the right time on a shortwave radio. You could pick up that particular numbers station. It would admit short tapping noises hence the name “Russian Woodpecker”. Put out one hell of a strong signal, it would actually interrupt legit broadcasts, ham radio operators had an issue with this radar also.

Drae, Chernobyl was THE event that advanced our knowledge of radiation. Before this we didn't have that much knowledge and even that knowledge was only known by those who specifically studied it. That's why the characters don't seem to know that much.

Drae, you are correct. @41:49 if you (or anyone) gets impaled it is normally preferred if you stabilize the object and leave it in until you get to a hospital, which should be your next destination.

I know it's a game so it won't happen that way but if I remember right, the elephant's foot would basically give you the highest lethal doses of radiation just by looking at it, much less being within a big proximity of it. It's gotten better now but yeah, crazy how much radiation was contained in that on first finding it.

Well that’s kind of what happens when you melt a bunch of uranium, which then melts its control rods, which then melts the reactor itself, which then melts several feet of concrete.

Elephant's foot is radioactive enough so that if you see it, you will get the lethal dose of radiation within a minute.

The reason you were throughing the most radiated material on the roof is because the wind would take the radiation much in wider radius if they kept the ore on the roof.

I feel like this would have worked best as part muclear powerplant sim for the beginning, firefighter sim for the middle and viscera cleanup detail for the end. maybe with a bus driver sim in the middle to evacuate people.

you couldn't get a sample of the elephant's foot because it is literally too hard for drills to do any damage (in real life the only thing that they could damage it with was shooting it with an AK 47)

It's correct, technically. IIRC, chornobyl is the native way it was written in its home country (Ukraine), and it didn't become chernobyl until it was making international news, at which point the Americanized spelling just stuck for a lot of places.

Honestly, the game looks good visually, but the way it's written, I don't entirely enjoy. The story is all over the place, it switches from character to character, I'm not sure if it's poorly translated on purpose or if that's the way it's meant to be, but it just seems meh. This feels like it could've been made so much better had they focused a lot more on the story aspect and gameplay aspect rather than the visuals.

I had big hopes for this game and i wanted to like it and i hoped it would be epic game but now im not so sure about the game. It´s pretty weird and it´s sad. But still, good enough, i think. The graphite on the roof was highly radioactive so they had only 90 seconds because the longer you stay near that stuff. The more chance you die or get cancer they had to shovel that stuff off the roof.

The helicopter scene is where they were trying to drop water or whatever directly into the reactor. However the radiation was so high it caused helicopters to crash.

At the end with the guys cleaning the roof. All of them died due to radiation poisoning. They needed to throw the radioactive debris back into the reactor to seal it. At first they sent robots there, but the radiation was so strong, that it just fried the microchips. So the only thing left was guys with shovels. And another "fun" sidenote. It still was an active plant, till the year 2000.

Drae was complaining about not being able to get a sample but he didn't listen to the phone call in saying it was too hard. Which it was because they couldn't even get a drill to get a sample and had to literally shoot it to get any sort of sample so no wonder Drae wasn't able to get anything.

Okay. One: You kept being mad about not getting any samples *while the game was telling you* that the Elephant's Foot was too hard to drill. Two: Even if you *had* managed to get a sample, that thing was so goddamn radioactive that I'd imagine just carrying a piece of it outside would doom everyone nearby to a slow and painful death.
