Great Big Story

Great Big Story

Күн бұрын

Before the days of photography, fishermen in Japan would immortalize their big catch with gyotaku, or fish prints. Today, Naoki Hayashi, is continuing the practice in Hawaii, keeping the ancient artform alive. He paints freshly caught fish with non-toxic paint, then presses them onto paper.

Beautiful art! He's a fish aficionado, a gyotaku. Weirdly enough, even though it's probably not that, it does make sense... gyo = fish, otaku everyone already knows. Provided that gyo is a pretty archaic, not used anymore word for fish (sakana)... nowadays people know more about the horrifying Junji Ito manga.
