I am a hard atheist. But I am also a hard agnostic. In other words, I can concede there is a mystery behind the “beginning” of the universe AND that that mystery needs a god-solution (2 enormous concessions IMO) but it still leaves us with a mysterious god. It is replacing one mystery with another. Why worship a god which is mysterious and you don’t understand? You are better off not believing in a god you don’t understand than guessing. It is less effort for one thing. But the line at 4:47 says it all. He is not a scientist and the scientists who are saying this are not theistic scientists. In other words, the people who BEST understand fine-tuning don’t go on to believe in gods. So why should a person who doesn’t understand the physics behind the fine-tuning argument think it is an argument for the existence of god? You can be a “fine-tuner” and an atheist!

There is NO overlap between Huemer's field's of interest and Theoretical Physics. You NEED to have an background in Theoretical Physics to even BEGIN to understand so-called 'fine-tuning'. Read AND UNDERSTAND Victor J. Stenger's book "The Fallacy of Fine-Tuning" before passing the slightest comment on this subject.

as far as nature is concerned all those numbers are "1" it's only humans give them values that relate to other values, so changing any of them could result in anything really, as many people point out we have a sample of one, there is only one universe we can tweak so yes, maybe teak a value and no life - as we know it - but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that all you get is a a different form of life. no one knows. except religists who can just make stuff up. the universe is "fine tuned" for a lot of things, bananas, coat hangers, dog poop. which was god actually after? the odds of life under a god ought to be 1:1 not bzillions to one against, either god screwed up with his initial creation and has to tweak the numbers, or he's bound by someone else's laws of physics. besides, if you are christian you are required to have faith, not knowledge, god leaves no evidence of his existence otherwise my free will goes down the toilet so what can you prove? nothing, all you will ever uncover is more "nature did it" besides, god is imaginary. the doctor loves to ramble. i used to wonder, why is this me here now? i mean, this "mind" of mine could potentially wake up as anyone, and if that's true then i could "wake up", become conscious, as anyone at any moment in history. but then i realised that "me" is connected to the material in my head. 25:00 what is a soul and how does it work, cos souls are just a synonym for minds, they are imaginary, souls were invented as an explanation of how your body stays in the grave but somehow you get into heaven too. it's more god bollocks. religists claim that souls have some special quality that is given to it by god and that this special quality marks it out as - well, special. more god bollocks. how? anything that interacts with the material world can be measured, and so far no soul. god only makes sense if you take him seriously, but as an idiot who can't even protect and apple tree, a guy who can only cure sin by flooding the planet, then you really ought to realise we have to find a different explanation for why there is a universe just like ours rather than "god did it" cos god can't organise a piss up at a brewery, let alone the physics, chemistry and biology of a universe - god is an idiot.
