I was going to recommend the same thing! Apply the paste, cover it so the volital oils don't evaporate, and let that sucker sit overnite. Anything else is an exercise in frustration! It comes in a spray now?! That is just 🤪! How I wish I had known that you were going to do that I could have given you a "heads up!"

If I'm remembering correctly, a friend in Abilene did the cover in plastic and then left wet towels over it overnight. Her son didn't even use the scraper or wire brush on most of it. She was thinking that the spots that needed a second application were the original paint that had been painted over several times?

Yes to the plastic cover! Also: a friend puts sawdust over the goop just before she starts the actually stripping process, the sawdust sucks up the paint debri. The final step is sanding or going over the surface with steel wool to get it smooth before painting on the primer.

Having lived in an well insulated home in a very sun-exposed, warm climate with zero fans or AC, I highly recommend getting 100% linen curtains to cover the windows in summer. This quick fix easily brought our house temperature down by 15 degrees. The linen still lets the light in but does wonders for blocking the heat.

When using an environmentally friendly product, doesn't it negate the idea by using a non-friendly plastic to cover it? Might as well use the toxic stuff if you are going to use plastic.

@@-XtraCredit- I’ve never really thought about that. I was just stating what I’ve seen people do. Do you know of an environmentally friendly cover option? Just in case someone would like to try it.

@@youngflourishing4632 biodegradable camping toilet bags are plastic-like, but not sure if the stripper would eat through them. Would need to test it. They hold waste for roughly 24-36 hours before breaking down. Keeping the item being stripped in the shade & using a misting fan might work to keep the drying to a minimum.

Painters usually overlap the paint on exterior glass a quarter inch up the glass panes from the bottom. That means water flows off; if you just make the painted edge exactly where the wood and glass meet then water can get into the joint and cause rot. Hope I explained that OK. Love your work!

Ashley I so respect your work ethic. It’s too late for this time, however, if you use stripper cover it with Saran Wrap just lay a layer on it helps keep the stripper from evaporating so fast. And unfortunately the toxic is stronger. The dome is looking beautiful. I am so happy to see you taking time for you and friends. Your homestead is a looong term project. As always thank you for great video.

My granduncle used a mixture of wasching soda, soap, fine sand mixed with water to get old oilpaints of wood. Mix a paste, spread it on the painted wood, let it sit for a few hours and scrape it of with a spatula. Repeat this, if necssary. Finally sand of residue paint with sandpaper.

Oh my goodness, Ashley! One of the best thumbnails if not the Best thumbnail I have ever seen on YT!! You look absolutely gorgeous and the colors on the walls of the done as your back drop is like catching a butterfly drinking from the last few drops as the sun comes up high enough to kiss the last of the drops for itself!! Just beautiful!! Female here, a Mom and Grandma, not trying to hit on you, nor am I infatuated or starstruck, lol!!! Most women should be complimented on all that they do and are, even more so, especially with a child or two or more and/or a husband. Their job is 24/7/365 a year. It doesn’t stop just because you are sick, or need a vacation or whatever, you are still on the clock. Not that you are one with a lack of compliments, but I try to hand them out with love when I can!!! Y’all have done such a beautiful job on the dome!!! I'm loving the floor chimes, that is so cool. I would imagine if one wanted to, they could be filled just so to make different tones and become an in tune set of musical chimes!! The finished product is just going to awe inspiring!!! Just like you and the girls and the three guys, the buildings and etc.!!!❤😊

Yay, getting Adali's home done! Great, 30 minutes to finish applying the base coat all the way around. Yum, delicious food in the big city, dresser under bed and color paint for door! Nice find! That does sound like chimes sweeping the floor! Cool! Plastering is done! Take the night off Ashley! The kittens are soooo cute! So are the kids (baby goats). I hope that citrus paint stripper works well. Good, it's bubbling up. Good sign. Good idea to test the concrete stain under the bed! I like the dark too! It always takes longer than you think it will! You have to have a great time with your friends. Yay, three coats are enough. I do really like the look of that door! I love the automatic gate! The harsh chemical strippers do work well. It's going to be hard around all those pieces of glass. Good thing the rain went around you. It looks good stripped. I like that color on the door. Is that the same color as the milk room cabinets? Thanks for this video Longnecker family! It just keeps getting better and better!

Feeling your frustration, Ashley. I always start out with eco-friendly stripper. Then I ALWAYS lose patience with it and switch to the nasty but effective kind. Grrrrrr. And be careful about sanding and scraping old doors and furniture. More often than not, you're dealing with lead paint.

All lovely, and impressive work. Next time you are trying to strip paint like that, try to do it at least in the shade, and after sunset or or shortly after dawn if possible. You could also 4 point spread large wet piece of cloth on a tall frame or between two trees, clothesline, etc. frame upwind of your project. Breeze or wind will cool the area as it passes through the cloth and over item. When I try to do something I've never done before, I try to understand how long it should take, and then quadruple at least. LOL For projects I'm already proficient in, I try to give myself time and a half to double when planning for time. So much can come straight out of left field and throw you off your time table. Good luck in the future.

The dressur. Put a top on it to match the curve of the wall. Gives more space to put things on and prevents anything from falling behind it. It also gives space to hide wires or extra storage. This also goes for head or footboard of beds and any other furniture.

So I have used the citrus strip and found unless you have perfect conditions you have to lay a super thick layer to get anything out of it. I have used a sand blaster as well it works well they have mediums for striping paint of all different surfaces. There tends to be more sanding involved but I didn't mind cause it seemed to work faster even with extra sanding. Plus with a sandblaster you can use it on a lot of things for refinishing. Plus gentle abrasive can frost you glass if you want too.

To AC her room. Barry about 100-200' of pipe about 4'+ underground. Connect into the hut at a low point. Vent high. As the room heats the ground will cool the outside air and vent into the room as the hot air escapes through the exhaust vent. Keep critters out with copper wool at the pipe inlet. Winter or cold nights the ground helps heat the air maintaining a stable temp,

When using citrus strip it works better if you use Saran Wrap while it is still wet. Takes less coats and scraping. I am sure you will have to strip something in the future so I hope this helps.

I learned by stripping paint off bricks in hot, dry, sunny Denver that painting on and covering with strips of old sheet helped keep it hydrated and the paint came off better than the non covered.

Stripping those old doors can be very time-consuming I know it took me a week (in a shop) to strip seven coats of lead paint of two doors to make a kitchen island. God Bless from your Canadian Friend.

I would have thought you would have put in a ceiling fan. The hut looks great. I wish i could live there. I would require an AC because i’m a lightweight. Ha.😊

you could plant some fast growing trees around the house to shade and cool the air, that would make a huge temperature difference :D

Such fun details in the finish of the dome. I can’t wait to see all your amazing ideas for the round house. So much to look forward to. Love the summer haircuts on the doodles.

Where do I even start!?! This was so cool! If anyone could win a battle of paint stripping during monsoon season, it's you!!! The floor looks and sounds beautiful!😂! And the doodles look so totally different, cute as can be. I bet Cloud was like, "who are you?" I'm amazed at your being able to endure the heat especially inside the dome, working as hard as you are. ❤
