Borderlands and Destiny are sooo different games. The fact that you compare them just shows that you either don't know enough about Destiny, or don't know enough about Borderlands.

Contemplating on trying this out, I've never played the game so I'm just a little leery on buying it because I just feel like I'm too far behind it will take forever to catch up and that there would be way too much to learn.

At this rate the games been the same since Dark Below IMO just minor tweeks, I stopped playing after HOW, If destiny 2 looks like dlc im done with the the franchise. Wee need deep RPG mechanics, and less rehashed enemy types. God forbid the tower reapears in the sequal we wanted borderlands style open world please

Look, here is my issue with these expansions. They're $60, with 1 raid and 1 new strike and some new gear and a story mode you can beat in a few hours. To me? thats not good value for money. I enjoyed Destiny in year one despite it's lack of content and overpriced underwhelming DLC, but thats where i stopped. The game is too expensive of an investment considering how little content the game has. Ill wait for them to have a whole collection that includes everything (present and future DLC) when Destiny 2 is announced. They'll release about 2 more expansions after this one i bet.

I am done with Destiny. So much promise, so much potential, yet shattered with nonsense and meticulous grinding.
