This is what it is like when I get home from work in the evening. I change and give Todd some cuddles then head upstairs before dinner.
Todd is a 7-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 53 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. Billi was a true pioneer in cat-human communication. Her interactions with Mom Kendra and Dad were amazing. I know you'll enjoy seeing Todd use his buttons and watching the love between him (and Glamour and Paulie) with their Dad as well! Their Mom makes an occasional appearance as well. I found Billi first, then discovered Todd. Subbed both and had double the fun.

The pace and intent of ‘play’ and ‘whirly’ being so fast surprised me. It looked like Todd’s trying to button talk as fast as you do lol

I have found that if he feels strongly about something, he talks fast. Generally it a negative emotion. The fastest one he has done was when he was very frustrated. I could figure out what he was asking for, and he said Want Dad No just about as fast as you can read it. There was also the time he had a scratch or bite on his back, and he asked me to look at it. I asked him who ouched Todd's back, and he went right to his board quickly and pressed Glamour. Lol.

Todd is like, I missed you sooo much today, Dad. I did nothing but nap and dream of what we would do when you got home. What a greeting he has for you! That's so awesome. I'm sitting outside with my little semi-feral kitten/cat Drizzle. He's had a recent growth spurt and is now noticeably taller, but not any thicker/heavier. I bought my indoor "giant" cat Noah and Drizzle some catnip toys today. I've read that about 85% of cats like catnip and 15% do not. But ALL the cats I've ever had loved catnip. So I wondered if Drizzle would like it... And, he does! He was rubbing his face all over the toy... Kicking it with his back feet... rolling around on the ground. I went inside to get my phone to video him playing... and yep, he chose the exact moment I started the video to get up and walk to the fence to groom... Then he lay down in the soft grass in the shade for a cat nap. I guess it is "first cat nip, then cat nap" for Drizzle. 😺

Hi Todd, it's Puds. You are doing so nicely with training your human. I have successfully trained mine to bring my dinner into the living room so we can watch TV together instead of eating out of a pet bowl in the kitchen. He complains about extra dishes to wash, but training humans takes time and discipline. If all else fails, we can always pee on the couch.

They truly are a great aid. Todd and I communicated well before the buttons but this allows him to tell me in more detail. I know when he wanted to play before but not with what toy. I knew when he wanted affection but not if it was pets, cuddles, belly rubs, or kisses, etc.

Todd is the only one. The other show no interest in them. Remember, we are asking if they want to learn a foreign language, just like people. Most do not want to put the effort into it.

If you put an identical button set downstairs, would Todd use them to talk to Mom during the day? I realize that might not be great, given her childcare responsibilities, but I’m curious whether Todd thinks she understands button communication. Does he use them to talk to her when she comes upstairs?

Before and Then are done by telling g him on his button board. Before Todd Play Bird Toy Then Todd Play Jingle Ball. After a while he makes the connection to the words he knows.

No, he does not have arthritis. Todd has a chronic condition that can affect his balance. You may see him walk a little off, stumble, or trip.

3:28 Todd was telling you he was done interacting with you and wanted laser mouse. Also PLEASE please mirror his requests with the buttons, add 'now whirly' or 'play whirly' but give him more grammar and other sentences. However, what you're doing is obviously good, Todd's doing so well!

I do mirror his requests at times. I do not include it here often to keep the videos shorter. Everyone expects Dad can use the buttons.

Todd is very smart and understood what the buttons were and could do for him. He started using them 10 minutes after he received them.

I didn’t have to do a whole lot. This shows just how smart this Boi is. As I was setting up his soundboard and adding his first set of buttons (Todd, Play, and Bird Toy) Todd came over to watch me and see what I was doing. I installed the Bird Toy button, his favorite toy, and pressed it. When it said Bird Toy his eyes lit up and got very excited. So I did it again and he reached over and touched the button. This got me very excited and I praised him for touching it, then I did it hard enough to make it speak and grabbed the toy, and started playing. At that point, he knew what they were for. When he was done playing I went to my computer so I could download the footage of him touching his first button. While I was doing that he went back and did it hard enough to make it talk. I was super excited and played with him for just a minute then went downstairs to tell my wife. While I was down there he went back and started hammering the button “Bird Toy Bird To Bird Toy…” The time from installation to the first button push was about 10 minutes (this is NOT typical. After that, until recently he understood most buttons as soon as I add them since most were words he knew. I did have to work with him so he understood the Now, Later, Soon, Ouch, etc. Here is a link to the video of his first button push. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/os1gjK-ftpnLm5c.html Then there are words like Now, Later and Soon. These are a lot harder words/concepts to teach. When I added the Now button I added it with the Yes and No buttons. When Todd would ask for his Bird Toy I would go to the soundboard and press “Yes” “Todd” “Play” “Bird Toy” “Now” and then play with him. Animals have a very good sense of time, Todd has Soon and Later buttons. Soon means he will get what he asks for in 15 minutes or less, Later means it will be longer than 15 minutes. We also use multiple presses of a button to indicate a strong feeling, need, or length of time. When I have to leave on a business trip and will be gone all week as I am saying goodbye to him I will say “Dad home later, later, later, later.” So he knows what's going on.

@@TheChroniclesofToddToddTalks So it's normal basic converstion you have with him anyway. I have 2 Cats. They both understand what I say to them. As they respond appropriately. Purchasing the Buttons will bring it to the next level. Thank you for your response. Give Todd a treat !

No he said Dad later, laser mousse now. ??? Before that he clearly wants brush, pets and cuddles from Dad….then later more Dad ….probably all the pets Brush and cuddles from Dad he can get. ( now and later)l Clearly wants to make up for you being gone.

I have the cameras set to show as much as I am willing. I work at my desk and I also dress upstairs and honestly most of the time I forget about the cameras until I am ready to pull video to upload. These cameras are also part of my home security system so they can be viewed by the monitoring company
