This week we’re telling the inspirational story of NASCAR’s first black driver: Wendell Scott. From helping his dad in the garage as a kid , to becoming his hometown’s fastest cab driver, to moonlighting as a bootlegger, Wendell’s entire life seem destined for the race track- but it wouldn’t be that easy. Wendell persevered through discrimination off the track, and battled it on the track when he finally got there.

Nice podcast. Even sweeter, if you recognize the organization, his family started in his honor the Wendell Scott Foundation. His family is asking for the trophy he should have been awarded 57 years ago.

Has it been 43 eps? Gosh thanks for the podcast! Ya'll accompanied me through cross border trips from malaysia to singapore for shows and auditions, morning commutes and much...much more. Keep it fresh but do us a flava and read some of your research esp when it involves Senna :p Excited to see what's coming for the 50th ep.

Might I suggest doing an ep on Nigel Mansell? Pronounced properly I hope? Mansell, rhymes with pencil :D The bloke remortgaged his house to pay for an F3 drive, did an F1 shootout test with a broken back, got a testing job with lotus and took donkey years to win, but once he did...

Loving the podcast, I listen to it while working and it's always good to learn new (even if sometimes hard or sad to hear) stories about car history. If I might offer some constructive criticism, as an international listener (I'm from Argentina) I'm not always familiar with US history such as the Jim Crow era, so please don't assume all your listeners will know what things are even if they are very well known inside the US. :) On the same vein, it's funny how on some episodes about F1, you take something that happened on that sport and compare it to something from the history of baseball, thus taking a thing most international viewers would get (but few US viewers would) and turning it into something most US viewers would understand, but little international viewers would. :P That always cracks me up. Keep it up!
