Life thrives in the most inhospitable places, so I don't see why this writers thing it would be impossible for intelligent life to evolve in a "death world", we have living organism living in the funnels of underwater volcanoes, so it won't surprise me.

They mentioned predators and poisonous vegetation as 2 factors that make a planet a deathworld. They also mentioned that a deathworld usually only has some of the characteristics, not all. It is literally impossible that intelligent life would evolve before poisonous plants. Plants don't want to be eaten, other than their fruit/nectar, and even then they use selective deterrents so only the most ideal species consume them. Large predators are also unavoidable if you have herbivores. Using these two as factors of what is a deathworld simply makes no sense. Mentioning natural disasters also makes no sense, as hurricanes and tornados didn't shape human evolution, and are therefore not relevant. Weather events frequent and widespread enough to be relevant are not considered natural disasters, they are simply the normal weather. (They could have mentioned the dry seasons on savannas as relevant factors in evolution, but no, they had to go to hurricanes.) How would intelligent life in any non-dangerous environment even evolve? Lush forests, where you just pluck fruit off trees? Species who are not so stupid as to spend 20% of their energy on a brain can do that too.

It's probably for help with acceleration if anything. You of course aren't going to change much of anything if you're already in ftl because you are way past escape velocity of all planets, stars, and even some black holes. Instead, have it so you launch yourself with jupiter, and then start the ftl to make the acceleration that little bit faster.

These stories were great when the first started. Now they're all the same ! They talk about how diverse Earth is , yet they typically only feature white Caucasian characters that only represent 25% of the Earth's inhabitants .

Girl doesn't sound real. When talking about Earth she sounds more like a travel agent or someone just giving a general overview of a place, was all generalizations and no personal experiences. That and acting like just because she comes from a "Deathworld" she more use to surviving. Yeah toss any city slicker or suburbanite into the wilderness and odds are in a week they either be dead or near death from lack of basic survival skills. If this were a game of Among Us my next vote we be that she was the imposter. Many of the HFY stories portray Earth as a Deathworld but don't act like it gives humans some special skill or knowledge insight. Instead humans are more like the Superman of the Galaxy. The higher gravity means humans tend to be much stronger on average so can carry more. The denser muscles and skin means things that will kill other species might only injury a Human. Being hunters in harsher conditions means humans have faster reaction times. Because of all the bacteria our immune systems are better and also means aliens can't go to Earth for fear of infection. Basically more akin to what the original superman was before they gave him flight and magic heat eyes. There is a reason they said "leap tall buildings in a single bound" because he jumped to get places fast. Basically it's our biology from evolving on a harsh world that gives humans the edge.
