Everyone, eventually, is supposed to develop an immune response and aversion to people who hate them, so telling yourself to ignore them becomes second nature. Artists get stuck in this very particular sort of purgatory where part of your regular experience is soliciting feedback from people you respect about why they think your work isn't any good, and then saying to yourself, "I'm still fucking awesome," anyway, and actually believing it.

I wonder when it did happen for the first time in history. I mean, we have probably been mocking and imitating dummies since humans exists. But we needed a kinda developped language to even formulate the concept of " can you imagine the first guy who " ? I mean you need both humans to be aware of conjugaison of past event so they both know they are talking about something that happened in the past. And thats the first difference between " imagine the first guy who step on a lego" And "Imagine the first guy who did step on a lego" First one is imagine a lego steping competition. Second one is imagine something that potentially happened in the past but that we can never see again. Also the thing in question should be old enough so they forgot how they discovered it. When you are living in the tribe of the dude who drank cow milk for the first time, you know how it was. But its only a few generations later that you can ask "how tf did it happen ? Was he drunk on rotten apples or something ?" Edit Also, as you are talking about a video it could be handy to live in a time where cameras exists. Seems like i should have read your comment with more attention
