Space: The Longest Goodbye on Independent Lens: pbs.org/longestgoodbye | #LongestGoodbyePBS
Watch on the main PBS KZfaq channel: • The Psychology of Spac...
In 1897, the Belgica set sail for Antarctica on the first true science mission to the end of the world,. But within 200 days, the crew found themselves trapped in sea ice, battling disease and insanity during the unending polar night. How did the extreme Antarctic winter affected the Belgica's crew? And what can their trials teach us about maintaining sanity in the harsh environments of space as humanity plans for it’s first crewed mission to Mars?

The winter was especially hard as they could not hold the traditional Antarctic screening of “The Thing”, as that film hadn’t been made yet

I'm leaning towards us humans spending time on space stations. Short of a mining Colony I'm not really sure what benefits Mars would have. It's very hostile to us humans. Once we get past the hurdle of gravity. We can do whatever we want out in space. Build as big and crates as many environment as we want.

Point to note: Mars has no air (!) or magnetosphere; you know the global magnetic field that protects from the invisible sunlight that kills in a few hours. Antarctica is doddle by comparison.

Space exploration should be done by machines. We are advancing in tech to do so. Humans haven't adapted to leave Earth and survive. The radiation will be deadly.

I think robots will be helpful for us to develop technology to overcome our biological weaknesses and allow us to explore and travel space eventually. But right now, we still have a lot of work to do. Just my thoughts.

Technically the best diet would be insects, their are easy to grow in small space and full of protein. Now try to grow grain in a greenhouse good luck with that. So please stop all of this vegan propaganda.
