Sabaton History

Жыл бұрын

This song is the story of Albert Roche, who is very much forgotten today, but after the First World War was THE hero of France. He was hotheaded and tempestuous, but above all he was GOOD. His service- and his legend- from that war- is just remarkable, and today we share the war stories of the First Soldier of France.

It is true that people that were big heroes in their lifetimes are often partly or wholly forgotten as the decades roll on. This is the second episode in a row to deal with such a figure- Albert today and Milunka last month (though she has been brought back to the public mind). Do you like this sort of story? And are there any such people you know of that you'd like to see us cover?

For a man who's purpose be known, and a deed be praised, it also says on his biography he was a Faithful man, and praise be... the man walked, and crawled through Hell itself... and the Lord finally said, "No, you have suffered enough" and took the man home to the shining Kingdom two months before the onset of another War... a hero of France, and a man of Faith, he held the line as he was ment too to stop what could have been a great and terrible tragedy.

To OP. It wasn't Rommel who pushed through the *Ardennes* . The plan was Erich von Manstein's and Army Group A which went through the Ardennes was commanded by Gerd von Rundstedt. Army Group B which went through the lowlands (which the entire Allied plan was based on) was commanded by Fedor von Bock. Rommel only commanded the 7th Panzer Division (of Army Group B) and he was at the Battle of Arras (Arras is in the far north of France bordering Belgium). This was a minor battle and the real victory and the sole reason for the rapid fall of France was Erich von Manstein's brave but bold (and very risky) sickle -cut through the Ardennes. Rommel certainly wasn't the man who won the Battle of France. Argon? Do you mean the Argonne forest? Well, that was during World War One.

@1HuntingShark

@@tibsky1396 true. Although if they had Carton de Wiart, Albert Roche and Milunka Savic you would struggle to get an unknown story from the central powers. Perhaps the defence of Bulgaria, the red Barron would have been cool but he was well recorded in history. Could have also done the Russian Women’s battalion of death and a proper campaign for the Harlem Hell fighters
@tibsky1396
@tibsky1396 Жыл бұрын
@@1HuntingShark We can also add Francis Pegahmagabow for the Canadians. The Red Baron seemed to be the most obvious, especially for the Air Campaign. Although he is well known. However, there had to be some on the side of the Central Empires. In the worst case, in the absence of a historical figure, there are also unknown campaigns, with an invented soldier. As they did with the Italians.

Another historical badass from the french army in the great war: Adjudanr Max Mader. Born in germany, he was a german soldier until he killed his officer in a brawl in 1889. He fled to France and joined the foreign legion. In 1917, during a french offensive, he would become famous by charging a german company with only 10 legionnaires, routing them, and capturing their artillery and machine guns. He would be hit in 1918, presumed dead, and would wake up in the morgue. He unfortunately had to be amputated of his left arm, and the legion found him a job as a groundskeeper in the gardens of the palace of Versailles after the war. In 1940, the german authorities would look for him, intending on trying him as a traitor. He would feign being deaf and mute in order to evade interrogation. The legend says that a few german soldiers disappeared in the gardens at Versailles during the occupation of France… and are still buried there!

Sentenced to be sent to the Chasseurs alpins unite, made many success not gaining one single rank "seconde classe privé" which was the lowest rank. in an alternate universe where roche didnt get hit by a bus there is no sabaton song about rommel breaching the ardenne with his ghost division, instead there is a sabaton song about an insane frenchman halting the entire thing by himself. lobbing hand grenades into tanks, taking out commanders and holding against rommel until france gets its command together. so no ghost division, but also no occupied france. guess you win some you lose some.

If I could pick five people from ww1 and ww2 to defend me, I’d choose 1. Albert Severin Roche 2. Adrian Carton De Wiart 3. Simo Häyhä 4. Audie Murphy 5. Milunka Savić These choices were actually very hard cause there were a lot of freaking cool people during those times

This honestly makes me a tiny bit sad that I missed out on the cruise, it seems like it was a lot of fun, but in the end I had to choose to not try and get tickets as the cruise started on my brothers 30th birthday and I wasn't gonna miss that, I had the thought of getting him a ticket as a birthday gift but we had relatives coming to celebrate him, Oh well maybe next time I get to go ^_^

they made songs about the first soldier, a woman soldier, and even an Unkillable soldier. However there is one soldier I would love for them to make a song of. the Soldier Bear, Corporal Wojtek

@@SabatonHistory It really is. And I did as always. Hopefully I can manage to get to Sabaton cruise at some point, though thankfully I can finally see the band live in Helsinki in couple of months. Been listening for like 13-15 years and I finally I can make it to a show.
