Everyone who read this have to know, that the chain and bludgeon of that flail is made of steel and is a leathal weapon, that can kill without armor, but the spikes we used are made from hard rubber. Yes we do crazy stuff, but we don't wanna kill each other. At the end of the day, we are friends. We are living for martial arts, but we don't wanna die for it.
Greetings

These videos are absolutely incredible, really. Well done! I saw a few times where the flail was swung at a typical defensive hold and then wrapped around and smashed into the helmet. Seems like a quintessential "counter meta" weapon (A weapon that is deliberately weird so that it takes experienced fighters by surprise). How hard were the strikes where it was blocked but still hit the helmet?
@dequitem

The block take some damage and you only take the force of the metal end with spikes. So it still hurts and disrupt your attacks, but it will not end the fight, despite the spikes will hit a soft target.

Hi, this type of weapon is strongly associated with our national history (Czech). This weapon was if not invented at least for sure popularized by the Hussites during their revolution in the 15th century. I don't think flail was used primarily for dueling. The Hussites had very specific and complex war tactics that had nothing to do with the way you duel. So I expected the knight with the halberd would have a clear advantage. I'd be very pleased if you would critically evaluate flail as a weapon in your own words in any future video 🙂 And thank you for your channel. It's priceless source of real life historical information 👍
@dequitem

Thank you! Yes I will make a further video to the combat with flails, after recording some more duels with it. There are historical examples of duels with flails like in the Freydal tournament book. But of course it wasn't the purpose of that weapon.
@DalHrusk

@@dequitemOh, great :-) I had assumed about flails that it was the weapon of choice of the Hussites because of its lower cost, yet it had most of the general advantages of polearms like range and powerful strikes (but incapable of thrusts). Another reason for them may have been that a large part of the Hussite army were former farmers, so they were skilled with flails as tools. But I didn't expect flail could be a match for dedicated polearms like halberds. It was a surprise to me 🙂
