Funny enough so many people dont realize this but when youre watching a movie or show and you notice that the movie didnt feel that long or you plowed thru multiple seasons in one day, you were in a flow state. You didnt realize how much time was going by and you were simply enjoying the moment.

I'm glad this state has been given a name. I've been drawing since I was 5 years old, I'm 23 now and I still draw to this day. It's one of the very few hobbies that I still have from my childhood and I admit that I've gotten pretty good at it and its the only time I enter this flow state. It's like whatever I'm trying to imagine becomes incredibly vivid in my mind's eye and my hand just knows how to translate it onto the page. I encourage everyone to try to reach that level of proficiency in something, where they've done it so often and enjoy it so much that they go into auto-pilot mode, it's a euphoric feeling.

For me when I enter my flow state it's very much like being alone in a forest at night, you're in the present moment. The seeking of perfection of what you're doing, with huge confidence, is what's driving you through it. Once you've done it, you're exhausted and you feel great and accomplished.

I think "runners high" is a good example of flow. You eventually get to a point where you no longer are thinking about the distance you've traveled or still have. You're just in a state of calm and focus.

I always called this “The Zone” just pure hyper-fixation causing you to perform at your best I’ve experienced this the most while drawing, reading (sometimes) and on very rare occasions while gaming. Its commonly used in sports by athletes but I’ve only ever experienced this in dodgeball and a handful of times during football but it’s only brief then never again for a while it’s strange but I’m glad your talking about it and bringing awareness to this trait

Flow is the difference between living and existing. Find something you're interested in and can be passionate about. Started painting, drawing and sculpture in my early teens (now 54) and it was an epiphany - hours would pass like minutes and for the first time in my life I found myself fully engaged and present.
@EnigmaScience
@EnigmaScience Жыл бұрын
And then some tech bros would invent another AI, which will be better than you in your passion and completely devalue all your skills and efforts. It's hard to be passionate about life these days - we might be richer and healthier than ever before, but the world become shallow and all pursuits are rendered pointless at terrifying speed.

@@EnigmaScience I do feel that whatever the AI is better than you or not, doesn't really **Devalue all your skills and efforts** (Assuming you are doing something out of passion only, and because you enjoy that thing, and not only to have monetary gains out of it, or that being the focus). You see, if you are doing something out of passion, you are enjoying that very moment you doing what you like, and not really wasting yourself over thinking whatever someone does it better than you, or whatever people think of what you are doing. You should be doing things for yourself, and not really for the others, if you are passionate about something, however others find of what you do shouldn't be the focus. Or so are my thoughts in the matter
@emperorofpluto
@emperorofpluto Жыл бұрын
@@EnigmaScience You totally missed the point. That's like saying the invention of the automobile made running obsolete. Artificial intelligences have a lot of trouble _creating_ an accurate artistic representation of a human being since they do not recognise painted images of many human features including ears, hands, fingers, feet, limbs so create absurd syntheses, and cannot understand the most basic artistic techniques like foreshortening (used to render a 3D object in 2D). The easiest way to spot AI generated "art" is the distorted limbs, excess fingers, etc.
@EnigmaScience
@EnigmaScience Жыл бұрын
@Kuuhaku I agree with that, but AI is a different problem. It's not "someone" doing something better than you - it's a machine crumbling the very core of human nature - creativity. It makes me personally doubt myself as a human. Do I have any purpose in existing if anything I can do or create can be done with a single push of a button, probably not right now, but in 10 years for sure? Do I even have a right to feel passionate about anything, or maybe I should double my working hours to make capital while there is still time for this for the sake of survival?

I vividly recall my high school baseball tryout, a moment etched in my memory. As I recount it, I assure you, I wasn't exaggerating when I say I performed flawlessly. There was a particular moment when the coach hit a ball to me so poorly that he preemptively apologized, deeming it uncatchable. Yet, I pursued it with unwavering determination, scooping it up as if by magic. I can still picture the astonishment on my fellow students' faces, with whispers of 'He's definitely making the team' circulating among them. It was one of those rare instances when I entered a state of flow, an experience that remains as fresh in my mind as if it happened yesterday. Today, I yearn to recapture that effortless brilliance, especially in my business ventures, as everything now feels forced and fraught with struggle.

Flow is like an extreme form of openmindedness. Your mind/consciousness is so abnormally open that reality itself becomes less material and more fluid - similar to being on mushrooms. This kind of openness correlates with high creativity because a lot more novel ideas are floating into your field of consciousness. But your mind is so open that these ideas literally start to morph your material world. A coffee table could start talking to you and giving you novel ideas. The trade-off is that your mind is less buttoned-up, so it literally starts to feel like you're going insane.

Great video! For me getting into a flow state is a matter of following certain steps or processes. I've tried various techniques that other videos have shown and they didn't work. So what I did was keep a daily journal and wrote in it a few times a day. I detail my feelings, thoughts, things I was doing, drinking, eating etc, and how it made me feel. I was also summarize and give myself advice on what to do to get back to that mind frame. After a couple of weeks I started noticing the patterns that produced the best results. Simply taking 10 minutes in the morning and rereading my summaries and notes to myself helped my brain get into that flow state. I drink a full glass of water, do some deep breathing and meditation, re read my notes and write more thoughts and get at it. The other thing that helped is to create a list of things TO DO the night before. That way when I entered my flow state there is no question on what to do next.... It always doesn't work out the way I want it to, but there are other factors like how much you sleep, recovery time from workouts, etc that can also have an effect on this. This alll comes to the fact that we have to start looking and really watching what we personally do. We're always outside of our minds and bodies, always wondering about this and that, this problem and that problem. If we become more aware of ourselves and our own feelings, emotions, mental states, entering a flow state isn't that hard... Just my 2 cents... Peace to all of you and much respect.

Regarding 6:15 Rob Dial Jr said in one of his latest podcast episodes that in order to start writing whatever it is that he needs, he’ll just type the most basic things, like “today is march 9th of 2023, my name is Rui and I’m 21. Today I’m gonna do x and z…” That way, he’s already started writing, maybe journaled a little bit, and he’s absolutely ready to continue Just thought I’d share this, I find it very useful. Great video as always McEwen!

I usually get into that state when Im gaming but only after i take certain steps. Usually i wake up, shower, wash my face with cold water, have some coffee, make some tea, drink some water, and i definitely need to start my day with as little human interaction as possible. Human interaction pulls me out of it. Also was good help for college when i had papers to write and turn in lol.

Nice the video got re-uploaded,I just got out of work and I'm currently enjoying this great video once more. So I'll rewrite my original comment xD I first discovered flow state while playing football with my classmates and let it be known I was not a good player what so ever with no first touch, no passing prowess, poor shot power/accuracy, only speed. That kid trained so much he refined the sport into his body, everytime he steps into the pitch everything else becomes irrelevant, it's only me and the ball. Everything else becomes an extension of myself from my teammates attempting to reach victory, to the opponents trying to break my legs. I only wish it was as easy to apply flow state to the overwhelming everyday life as it is when playing football ⚽. Great video😃👍🏽.

How much equivalence is there between flow and mindfulness, such as zen? Is it not merely the act and state of being "in the moment", that is, living the present moment with all one's senses, so that tasks, even mundane tasks (like washing dishes) become life at this moment? This moment, and not worrying at all about the past or the future. And then that flows into the next moment, and the next, and so on.

I am new to this channel. Still deciding if I am going to subscribe since I have enough already. But why would he encourage folding dirty laundry @12:04? I sometimes fold semi-dirty clothes when I change at the local municipal pool, but normally I fold only clean clothes.

I only have a handful amount of times I remember entering the flo state. One was this evening at a park where I played a pick up basketball game. 3v2. I just couldn't miss and I played defense like Tony Allen or MJ. I was with one other taller dude who seemed skilled so I was his partner with us 2. The other team had a really good ass streetball handler. And that was the first time I'd seen him stripped. And it was by me. I had the worst cardio but I kept going through it until we won. The other was when I went skiing that was so nice. Edit: I'd played basketball for like 5 years and never entered it until that night.

I recommend reading the beauty of discomfort by Amanda Lang. It is full of examples of how seemingly successful people are those that deal with discomfort extremely well. They tend to lean into it and seek it out, but know when and how to mindfully reframe its meaning when necessary.

Okay, who isn't a MJ FAN? I see MJ being used over and over again as a marker for the Flow State. Something that I believe was a factor with MJ Flow State was the enormous amount of support around MJ. I would think that the company of people focused on supporting you positively would charge this Flow State. Just like one can get into Flow State by negative impact but the struggle to enter into Flow State may take longer due to lack of support. We are connected so I would think support of some kind is a must. Just a thought.

If you enjoy topics about mastery and masculinity, I invite you to explore the videos I share on the Mastery Order Channel. Challenge yourself with some concepts about manhood, explore your masculine potential to the maximum and become the kind of man you would admire. We can only better ourselves together, as men among men, so I invite you to use what I share and, of course, share your own opinions so that others can benefit from them as well. All the best to you!

I remember I was doing a boxing match, It was tough and I was going to get hit but I started thinking of songs i listened to prior to the fight and right before I got hit with this punch I remembered the song and felt time slow down and It was weird, my vision got blurry but i knew exactly what to do, The punch was fast but seemed slow to me and I countered so easily. When I stopped imagining this song it my "Flow state" stopped but every time that same combination happened and i recognized it, my body went back into the "Flow state" remembering that same song which helped me to counter him in different ways, I later won the fight but can anyone help me figure out how i achieved this state?

Wait a second, i have a problem, well not really a problem, more of a question: in the past i feel like ive been able to reach flow state even before i knew what it was in basically anything, you give me a task, an objective and maybe a couple hours and I'll probably have entered and exited the flow state a couple of times, sometimes consciously, knowing what to do or think to "flip a switch" inside of me, now, is this some kind of adhd bullshit i should be looking into or am i just predesposed to flow? Im actually worried cause i dont need any other mental conditions lmfao

I don't feel emotion when I enter flow state. I have found I can only do it only when I drive a car to its absolute limit. I lose all perception of distractions, but no emotion at all.
