Awesome pointers, I think at least. I'll be trying these on my 8mo old duchie starting today! She is smart, maybe smarter than I am :)

Rewatching this as I’m moving to a new level of expectations with my younger dog. Couple of questions: 1. When do you introduce the “heel” command? Trying to pick up from the video but you don’t always say “heel” specifically. 2. My older dog doesn’t like being right beside me, he is slightly behind and a step away. Should I force him to be close or just be happy he gives the focus? Thanks as always. Will need to come back for a refresher with my boys in the summer.

You can introduce the command right from the beginning. I find it doesn't make any difference. The dog will pick it up. For your older dog, if you're using bait, circling to your right with the bait at a slow to moderate pace can help provided you're using a high value treat.

@@geminik-9obedienceinc258 thank you. One more question, in the sequence when do you use the word “heel” to issue the command when training? So part of phase one, should I even say “heel” or only after we start movement as part phase 2? Again appreciate this amazing advice and direction.

Issue the Heel command half a second before stepping off. Always remember, your command precedes the behavior.

Love your videos! But I have a issue with my newest pup, that I have not had with any of my other shepherds. I can not for the life of me get him to move with me. It’s easy to get him into correct position, he sits straight 8/10 times. But I have issues with both getting him to elongate his neck upwards, and even if I start super slow, walking in place, and then slowly moving my left foot forward, he will not move with me. Been working on this for weeks now.

Is he very food motivated, or does he prefer a toy? Also, what type of food do you use with him?
