If you’re a fan of horror movies, then you’re a fan of John Carpenter. For the bulk of his career, he has stayed true to the genre. Like fellow directors George Romero, David Cronenberg, Wes Craven, and Dario Argento, John Carpenter seems to really enjoy making horror movies. Much has been written about his classic films like Halloween and The Thing. But today, we’re taking a closer look at one of my favorite John Carpenter films, the original 1980 version of The Fog and what we'd like to see from a sequel!
Get THE FOG Collector's Blu Ray here! amzn.to/3eNiws2
Watch THE FOG here! amzn.to/3aSVCOu
SHOW ME THE SEQUEL is written and narrated by Pat Q, edited by Lance Vlcek, Produced by John Fallon and Berge Garabedian is the Executive Producer.
SERIES SYNOPSIS: The focus of this show is all about genre films that either never got sequels and we feel it's long overdue, fine movies that did get sequels but they were so lackluster that going back to square one is a must, or... flicks that DO have sequels but hey, we want freaking MORE of them! On top of that, we put our pitch for what said sequel should be about!

The fog is my absolute favorite. Then Halloween, Halloween 2, Halloween h20, resurrection, Friday the 13th part 1 and part 3, the goonies. I watch/listen to all those all the time. But the fog, the fog is special. A lot of good memories from when my dad showed me this in the early 90s. I loved it. At work I listen to it through my AirPod. And at night I’ll put it on.

John Carpenters The Fog is not a masterpiece. But is truly a well made low budget horror film, that (as you said) deserved a lot more credit. The problem with horror films is that they tend to age terrible. Just a bunch of horror films have aged well.

@@jamiebraswell5520 The person I made a commented to said they didn’t want a sequel and the original is perfect as it is. I pointed out that a remake already exists so why not have a sequel anyway. The remake didn’t tarnish the original and having a sequel will not make the original any less perfect. How are you going to comment on a post almost a year old and say a remake can’t be in the discussion? Anything about the movie and franchise is fair game.

I don't know why people think Blumhouse makes anything....They don't make movies, they finance and distribute the owners of the IP still have to want to do something....There is also probably a less than zero percent chance a studio would be willing to give Carpenter money for another bomb, his movies may be good but ALL of them that aren't called Halloween have bombed.

@@lew306 john Carpenter doesn't care. He quite trying to satisfy studios long ago. He made what he made with complete control as opposed to sucking up to bigwigs. *THE FOG* (1980) is my all-time favorite horror movie. The Sea Grass death scene is about as violent as it gets, and there's *NO* blood spilled at all. The film's R rating is undeserved. So says TV Tropes: "The lack of blood in the film was to try and secure a PG rating." In other words, it has no real reason to be rated R. When I was a kid, my dad made me leave the room during the death scenes. Since I wasn't supposed to watch them back then, I believed that they were more violent and gross than they actually were when I finally watched them some years later. Compared to *JAWS* (1975), The Fog is practically a kid's movie! It's interesting to note that Jaws *IS* rated PG, despite that it has a lot of blood and gore while The Fog has none at all. Even The Fog's 2005 remake...rated PG-13...is much more violent than the original R-rated version. I know most people hate when I bring up the ratings, but it continues to baffle me how more violent movies are given lower ratings while more tame moves are given stronger ratings. These films are prime examples of this. You can also include the *INDIANA JONES* movies (the first two, anyway) as well as *POLTERGEIST* (1982)...which are also rated just PG. Regarding the scene when Nick attempts to open up his door when the clock breaks at 1:00 AM, it's a good thing that it did break to distract him. Otherwise, he would have been the fourth victim (the ghosts had already killed the three men on the Sea Grass by this point) as we see a ghost raise one of its weapons in the air with the intention to kill Nick.

In John's case, his two big hits have drawn people in to see the other things he has made, leading to the man himself having a massive following. Your important box office had nothing to do with his movies achieving cult status. John's rejection of the studio way and his desire to instead make what hecwanted to make has given him a true legacy to leave behind. Loved it ever since I first watched it in the early 80's as a small child. For me it is John Carpenter's best movie by far. I thought your sequel idea was FANTASTIC. ....my only qualm being the character of Nick Castle isn't in it. ....I love TOM ATKINS.

Awesome pitch for a sequel! Straight and to the point. I think this would be great for Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios.

My all time favorite horror movie. The wife & I watch this every year during Halloween season. The remake was pure trash but no lie, I would watch the hell out of that sequel idea! Great job coming up with that. It would absolutely need the right director who understands atmosphere over jump scares (Mike Flanagan maybe?), actors that don't look like they stepped off a show from the CW, preferably a larger ratio of middle aged/older actors to add weight and gravitas and absolutely Carpenter coming back to score. Him and his son could do a modernized but still faithful re-imagining of the original music. Damn, I really would like to see someone snatch this pitch up

I didn’t care for how they handled the story of the lepers in the remake. They threw in a convoluted reincarnation story that made NO sense at the end. They also removed the slasher element from the supernatural aspect, which turned the Fog from the cloak that concealed the lepers to an actual force itself. This killed the suspense factor because the Fog could just seep in anywhere. Gone was the suspense of the Fog surrounding a building before the doors and windows break open with the fright of a zombie influx.

Love The Fog. I’d watch that sequel. The Fog had a great atmosphere and tone. Melancholy, kinda sad and spooky. Not many like that.

I have to strongly disagree with this. The Fog is as PERFECT a horror film as you'll see. It's meant to be a standalone story. Please don't tarnish it with a sequel it doesn't need.

THE FOG (1980) was released a year before SCANNERS (1981) so it is unlikely that the gore scenes influenced AVCO to want more gore. More likely ALIEN (1979).
