It just lends itself to animation. The fog is such a weird movie and John Houseman's speech at the start of the movie is next level weird. Maybe I should have a go at 'the thing' next

That was the only vid to have two deforums layered on top of each other. The opening sequence with the watch and the kids is really two animations together. I have refined this technique since and will be putting up a new one using this over the next couple of days

@@_hellohooray Cool, I added more tags to the animations so that may have something to do with it as well, happy you are getting more stuff through your feed, I'm working on lots of new stuff although they are becoming more technical and detailed using different techniques so taking a little longer

It's interesting to me that I have only been doing this for 4 months and some of the first ones I put up are not very good but I wanted to leave them up as it shows a clear progression in technical skill and animation. I wanted each one to tell some form of story rather than just an interesting animation for the sake of it, I think this is where a lot of deforum users fall down a swirling dizzying animation with a fast break beat or Dub step tune is OK but short lived in the memory, I would rather create an evocative atmosphere and get the brain ticking

I always loved the fog opening sequence, the rest of the movie is great but John Houseman's story at the start is just a classic movie moment

It started as an experiment with taking a deforum animation and overlaying it on top of a second unrelated deforum animation (the watch and the kids at the start) first time I have attempted this, not easy but with chromakeying it was possible, also another experiment at getting an animated character to speak. Two boxes checked and it opens things up with using these techniques on future deforum animations

The slow motion effect and fade between scenes really lends itself to the fog subject. The opening scene with the kids is the only time in any of the animations that I have done one animation superimposed on top of another. The watch and the kids are two separate animations meshed together. A real head scratcher in practice but turned out well

Your animations turn out really well like storyboards put into motion. I've tried a few just using photographs of a person or a figurine or a letter of the alphabet using just the look around or move around and photographic setting. The subjects just seem to move back & forth like they are on a small ship that keeps tipping side to side over & over. Sometimes they do quick turn arounds. Hard to tell from some of the sample previews on Deforum's site which ones are useful for giving the room to room or fly thru effects you have achieved. Trial & error I guess like you likely did getting to the achievement level you have. I am just using the free open source Open Shot video editor. Your videos are a good demonstration of what can be achieved.

Trust me, i stumbled around producing a lot of rubbish with it from the day the platform opened. It takes time to get what you want, there are things it can't do with any presets, like someone walking or running, so best to stay away from those things. The new presets the other day really helped, if you want to go straight like a car going down a road use zoom in option and use a video editor to speed it up. Some of my creepy stuff is interpolated X10 (Introduce extra frames X10, then you can slow it down to 10 or 15 percent. Get a copy of 'flowframes' Its free and open source, I always use it. The higher the interpolation the slower you can make the animation (Needs a graphics card but will run no problem with a 4gb card)@@tj2745

Thanks for the flowframes reference. Their site shows some samples how super smooth it makes slow motion look.

Look at the Witcher animation I did, that was done with flowframes X10, then put into KDenlive editor and slowed from 100% to 15%, really creepy but silky smooth@@tj2745

I'm with you on that. I saw alien and the fog on opening nights in 79. That was some year for sure, both were visual drugs for the eyeballs

@@francolli Special effects were all new and better with every movie. Today it's just expected. Nobody goes, "how the hell did they do that" anymore. And of course there was Adrienne Barbeau and the twins!🤭 Opening night was a double feature with "Phantasm" and "The Fog"

@@ThomasBarone Sounds like some night with those two movies together. That was some era, Star wars, close encounters, Jaws, Alien, Fog, I could go on all day, then a bit later Blade Runner. That mid seventies to mid 80s was a golden age for movies for sure

I had not thought of that but may include a 'buy me a coffee' at some future point. For now I'm just building the channel and the animations are quite basic for now but as I get better at this I may need to use more advanced tools so may need help to make stuff.
