The Fords of Avon - Two day hiking adventure in the Cairngorms

Join me along with Sniper Hikes on this epic two day trip into the wilderness of the Loch Avon Basin in search of the Shelter Stone.
Loch Avon and its surrounding mountains are simply staggering in awe and beauty. Add to that gale force winds, driving rain, snow and the best night in the Fords of Avon Refuge - It was always going to produce the kind of adventure that would be enjoyed for many years..
Sniper lured me out on this trip in search of the Shelter Stone - but did we succeed?

Loved the views as usual, and the hut looked quite homey. I don't know if I could wear the goggles, they'd make my sinuses stuff up IMMEDIATELY, which would just make hiking that much harder. If you do get new boots, be sure to show them off for us!

Well that was epic Jim, such a stunning place bringing back memories of a circular route taking in the Lairig guru I do with family and friends. 5 of us spent the night in the fords of Avon refuge shortly after it was rebuilt it was like brand new and one of the best bothy night I’ve had. We had such a laugh squeezing into there. The passes were full of deep snow. My Dad was about 74 at the time. Well cinematically that was beautiful. My bags packed and I’m not fully committed yet but I may be getting the train to Pytlochry at the end of the week to walk up Glen Tilt and down Glen Feshie on the SNT and then over to Fort Augustus. Sniper did look a big chap crouching in the refuge I don’t recall it being that low but apart from my brother we are all short. 😂 ATB Jim and a brilliant watch. 👍😊🍻

Ahh Glenmore, the campsite where,in summer I've seen entire families camping and driven mad by the midge! They would pile into their car and just leave.
