Mavka's speech at the end "No, I'm alive! I will live eternally, because I have that in my heart which never dies." is actually a quote from Lesya Ukrainka, who wrote the play "The Forest Song". This movie is based on the play, although with major changes so that it would fit a children's movie better.

1:51 It's funny how the "soul of the forest" is the most human of all the spirits of the assembly. Even the Nymphs look less humans than her. 3:25, yeah, i bet the story wouldn't have such a peaceful resolution if she was ugly. 6:26 Oh no, he won't be able to make music without his flute! That is certainly more important than my duties as protector of the forest and all the creatures that dwell in it. 12:44 It's funny that they say they are united. One common front at a time of crisis is not enough to actually unite peoples. What about the issues that divided the peoples in the first place ? Like, the spirits are guardians of the wilds and its ressources while humans build their civilisation by harvesting thoses ressources, often wounding the land behind them. How do you make peoples with such opposed interests coexist in peace ?

On your first point, there's a chance that Mavka looking like a human WAS the point: she was destined to bridge the gap between the forest spirits and humans On your final point, I see it as the start of an alliance. They will eventually talk to each other about being good neighbors and being respectful to each other. It's thanks to Mavka and Lucas being together that kick-started it

Mavka is based on a 1900s Ukrainian play. And it’s got to be one of my favorite animated films from overseas next to A Monster In Paris, Leap, Red Shoes And The Seven Dwarfs and wolfwalkers

I had a theory that main character before transforming into Mavka named Narissa who look like Nia-ait's young Mavilla sees the forest the green energy glowing as she transforms into Mavka.

Not her fault she wasn't told the facts that could actually help her, so later poor beautiful guardian didn't really know better than using fire until Lucas's uncle proved not all were humans intended to treat the forest cruel. Poor Mavka wasn't sure what was possible to try to achieve through such a situation.
