The Forgotten 1992 Dodge Daytona IROC R/T is a Rare and Underrated Pony Car Like The Z28 or Mustang

"No, not that IROC!!"
Say the word "IROC," and virtually everyone will associate it with the 1985-1989 Chevrolet Z28 that licensed the name and became synonymous with it. IROC actually stands for "International Race of Champions," which was a Masters Tournament or All Star Game of the car racing work, focused much more on North American racing than the name would imply.
In 1990, the race moved to sponsorship by Dodge, and the IROC name was plastered on their Daytona, a turbocharged (or V6) pony car that ostensibly competed with the Camaro and Mustang. In 1992, only 341 IROC R/Ts were made, utilizing the 2.2 Turbo III engine, a unit extensively tweaked by Shelby and Lotus, and massaged to 224 HP - more than 1.6HP per cubic inch!
Only 341 were made primarily because Lotus was unable to provide the tweaked heads in any great quantity, and far less than Dodge had envisioned. This makes it an extremely rare muscle car from the 1990s, and an absolute future collectible.
This car is a showroom condition 1992 with 47K miles and all original condition throughout. Full review and test drive by Bill. Vehicle for sale at Autohaus of Naples, on the web at www.AutohausNaples.com or by phone at (239) 263-8500.

My father was a salesman for a Chrysler dealer back in 1985 when the Laser came out, and he brought a loaded one home once to try out. I was 12 and obsessed with Knight Rider, and here he comes with this black talking car with a digital dashboard. He got real tired of me begging him to keep it.

Were you successful in getting him to keep it? My dad was a real prick when it came to stuff like that. When I was a kid he got a '71 or '72 corvette stingray, put a new engine in (did keep the old block) and we'd drive through the mountains in it. A few years later I started college and that son of a bitch (may you rest in peace grandmother) asked me if I wanted the corvette. Obviously I said yes but pointed out that I couldn't keep it on campus. A week or two later he calls and says you didn't really want the corvette did you? Then he goes on to tell me his brother bought it off of him who then later sold it to my cousin. He's done stuff like that with a lot of things, the corvette, a sweet ass wood planer, a kubota backhoe, and some family guns. I learned then that my dad was a lying asshole and in general just not a really good person. It seems maybe he wanted money for those things but he could have said so and I'd have paid for them if I was able. Now flash forward to present and those corvettes are expensive as all hell. If I had a mean bone in my body, I'd wait until he needs put in a nursing home (which I'm against) and say you didn't really want to stay at home with expensive in home health care did you? Awe shuckeez, I spent your senior citizen care fund on some guns, a corvette and a tractor. lol.

@@PatrickDKing my mother did something like that to me. She took my grandfather’s car a 1984 Cadillac sedan deville and rather then let me have it as he intended, she sold it to one of her piss poor friends. She tried to tell me “ oh well the transmission blew up” yeah cause you had a 16 year old with a big RWD car, bet you 10 bucks he was neutral dropping it when it blew. Anyways they quit paying her for it when it blew and I don’t know what happened to it. I suspect it was hauled off for junk or given away in as one of those cars for kids thing. Regardless all I have is a set of keys and an owners manual for a car that’s likely several Frigidaires now

I settled for a 1998 Acura Integra GS-R in good shape I found at a local lot . @@michaelandradejr Where did you get your information from? You say the Dodge Daytona had MAYBE 165hp? Do yourself a favor and Google these cars. These cars (the 1992-1993) Dodge Daytona Iroc R/T had 224hp from the factory. Yes....that is the same as the Ford Mustang GT 5.0 from the same year. And yes, this car has half the number of cylinders. And yes...this Dodge Daytona Iroc R/T made more HP than the Eagle Talon TSi and Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T and/or GSX of the same year.

He ended up special ordering a 92 Iroc Shelby 2.5L turbo 5 speed in black on grey ( which took 7 months to get!) and had it 10 yrs before rust started to get it. It was a very good car, which is not something usually said about Daytonas. Really the only things that broke were the a/c and the Infinity radio..He sold the car to a guy who restored it in 04. We got to see the car when the guy had finished. It was outstanding!! The 02-03 Daytonas are the best of the breed by far.

I had an 86 Turbo Z with the C/S package, was a hell of a fun car! Used to street race it in the late 90's on cruise nights in Fremont, OH back when there was still a cruise scene on Fri and Sat nights. Always wanted one of these but could never find one.

One day my father and I went to the nearby Chrysler dealership and we test drove one of these. Exactly the same as this but had CD player and electric windows. Anyways dad bought it and told me to follow him home with his car. (the one we came in). Got home and went to give him his keys back and he said kepp them they're yours. A white 90' VNT Shelby Daytona. This brought back memories I forgot like the signal light control. Lot of other memories too. Thanks for that.

The overhang is crazy. Agree - it had been 2 decades since I saw any Daytona.
@PeterBellefleur
@PeterBellefleur 3 жыл бұрын
The all had that overhang. For the entire run the bare sheet metal of the fenders, doors and quarters were all exactly the same. The facelift was exactly that, the front bumper cover and rear tail light housings from any of the 3 generations will pretty much bolt onto one another. They would change some of the door moldings and ground effects around to hide the fact the body shell on a '93 was pretty much the same as an '84.

I was a GM kid back then & had a TPI Trans Am. I loved IROC-Z Camaros as well but recognized that this car was something special. It was rare as hens teeth even when new. Amazing to see one in time capsule condition now. I always thought that all the Daytona Z needed at the time was a 4 valve head and DOHC and then this came out. I test drove a Homer Simpsonish Spirit R/T. It was quick but crude. This car had the style to go along with the power and would've destroyed my TPI 305 auto. if I was Jay Leno or Hoovie I would buy this in a second.
