The Forgotten BEAST That Changed Motorsport Forever!
The Alpine A110, a French sports car that left its mark on motorsports history! This video takes you on a journey through time, exploring the birth, rise, and legacy of this iconic vehicle. We'll start by introducing you to Jean Rédélé, the visionary mastermind who founded Alpine in 1955. His passion for racing and engineering led to the creation of a car that would change the game forever. You'll discover how the A110 evolved from earlier Alpine models, becoming the ultimate rally machine with its innovative design features. We're talking about a lightweight fiberglass body, sleek aerodynamic shape, and a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout that made it a force to be reckoned with on the track.
Hold onto your seats as we relive the A110's most epic moments, including its triumphant 1971 Monte Carlo Rally win and the spectacular 1973 World Rally Championship victory. You'll meet the skilled drivers who piloted this beast to glory, pushing it to its limits on the world's toughest rally stages. But did you know the A110 wasn't just made in France? We'll take you on a global tour, exploring how this French icon was built in countries like Spain, Mexico, and even Bulgaria!
As with all great stories, there were challenges along the way. We'll delve into the factors that eventually led to the A110's decline, including new competitors like the Lancia Stratos and the rapidly changing technology in the world of rally racing. Despite these obstacles, the A110's impact lives on. You'll see how it influenced modern sports car design, continues to be celebrated by car enthusiasts worldwide, and paved the way for future high-performance Renault models.
Whether you're a die-hard car fan or just love a good underdog story, the tale of the Alpine A110 is sure to get your engine revving!

In Brazil the Renault Alpine A 110 was also licensed and built from mid 1960’s to late 60’s. Willis Overland who during that time produced the original Jeep since 1950’s to expand its line to passenger cars besides its own designed in US Aero Willis, which was a full sized car for Brazilian standards, it also went in partnership to bring the Renault Dauphine. Since the Dauphine became a comercial success, Willis Overland of Brazil, later started manufacturing the A110 licensed from Alpine. There it was called Willis Interlagos. Basically much of mechanicals came from the Dauphine. I am not quite sure but I think Emerson Fittipaldi who was twice F1 champion in 1972 and 1974 drove a Willis Interlagos in the mid 60’s in Brazil. A convertible version was also produced solely in Brazil. That I am very familiar because my mother’s neighbor had one and he kept in top notch collector’s condition. The Interlagos it is one of most desirable collector’s models of that era in Brazil.

The Renault Alpine A110 is NOT forgotten it is a legend. I am the proud owner of a Renault-Gordini powered Lotus Europa S2 Type 54. The Renault engine and trans axle are superbly engineered and even had lip seal rear main gaskets for the engine in a time of rope seal rear mains, this was 54 years ago. The engine is a superb all alloy Hemi 4 cylinder, and mine is tuned up so much it can keep up with Porsche 930's and 6litre V8's. That little angry 4 cylinder is a beast and at 6,000 rpm it has a scream unlike any other engine.

I learned to drive in a Renault 4Cv, and my first car was a Renault Dauphine with "Ferlec" clutch, then an R10 Gordini; I was hooked on Renault and now, over half a century later, when someone asks me what car I would like above all others my immediate response is "Alpine A110 " !

I drove one, once. Let me tell you, it was a brutal thing and easy is certainly not a word I would use about it. The clutch, hard as a brick, had about 1,5cm course and it would be quite hard to balance in a curve.

Some comments have already mentioned a Brazilian version of the Alpine. It was produced as a sport/street car (series), named Interlagos, with the lines of the Alpine A108, and mechanical items from the Renault Dauphine, which was already being produced in Brazil. From 1961 to 1966, 822 cars were sold. And several more adapted for competition, for the factory's sports team. The Fittipaldi brothers (Emerson and Wilson) were some of the team's pilots. As a curiosity, the company was named "Willys-Overland do Brasil", brazilian owned and named after the American company, already purchased by Kaiser Motors by that time. Still more curiously, Ford purchased Brazilian Willys by 1967.

In Brazil, Willys Overland made a version of the A108 called Willys Interlagos from nearly 1962 to 1966. The A110 never came to the Brazilian market, I believe, because of the acquisition (and the end of activities) of Willys Overland by the Ford Company in 1967.

Very nice pics. Great. Thank you. Willy's of Brazil also produced Alpines. There were also Le Mans racing variants: the sleeker Alpine 210's. The successor to the A110 was the contemporized design of the A310, which when released, a magazine stated: 'Now Turin is no longer the only place in the world where they know how to make sports cars.' I want one. Will settle for a Willy's version please.

I had one back in 1999 and regret ever selling it! There's an error in the vid here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZseYpKxqkpnIqp8.html as that engine is nothing to do with the Alpine A110 unless it's from the modern 'retro A110'. Also at one point you talk about the A108 while showing an A110......still, nice to see it featuring these days. It is a truly classic design....

The Stratos was NOT a "Lance See Ahh". Lancia is ITALIAN. So it is pronounced "LAN CHA". ALSO, you seem to be incapable of research. The Alpine A110 was the basis that was raced on circuits around the world. I watched them in the 1960s. Stick to American land yachts if you are always going to insult European languages, people and countries. Perhaps you should adopt a relevant motto? "Nothing can work faster than correct research."
