Find out the huge aqueduct buried in time as we take a narrowboat trip to Rugby along the Oxford Canal. Check out the place where the canal and railway haven't changed in over 150 years, how James Brindley's canal was shortened by fifteen miles, and the story behind the Horseley Iron Works bridges.
Colin uncovers how a young lad invented a world-famous game played by men (and now by women) with odd-shaped balls. Intrigued...?

Loved Foghorn Leghorn... some of his best quotes... "I say that boy is playing with a full deck alright".... "He's just really slow at shuffling"... "Boy, I say Boy, you are about as useless as a back pocket on a T-Shirt"...

20yrs ago I was an entertainer, keyboard/vocalist working under the name of 'Ian Murray'. Just beyond the Newbold Tunnel are two pubs. The Barley Mow and (I think) The Boat. I was booked to perform for a canal side, summer fete between the two pubs. My 'roadie', he knows who he is but I'll only use his initials here (GS) ! had completely messed up my reverb on the mic for an outdoor performance. For fun I said to the crowd, ''I'm going to sing in that bloody tunnel, it will be better than this''. And so, that's what I did and about 40 people all followed me into the Newbold Tunnel holding their drinks as I sang Frank Sinatra's, 'You Make Me Feel So Young'. Thanks for the memories guys xxx

I thoroughly enjoyed this one Colin and Shaun. I never tire of the . . . Oh, so interesting history tidbits that your every inquisitive, unearthing research discovers. I found the bit about the now buried aquaduct quite interesting, as well as the painting you featured with the steam train passing the narrowboat. It makes for a nice contrast in that trains have evolved quite a bit, while narrowboats have remained pretty much the same. Thanks awfully for the wonderful jazz music, always a welcome addition. Take the very best of care Shaun and Colin, you two bring so much joy to so many. Cheers from Avondale, Arizona.

Great footage you done us Brinkas proud with the history of the canal that no longer routes through the village. Pity you didn't take a trip down broadstreet, I'd have loved to have shown you around by bike lol. Its a great vlog footage and all but I guess you didn't see the big terrapin before Brinklow mariner were boat pulled out in front of you. When I was younger, I remember waving at trains going past the narrow boat I was on. If the trains were local and not going very fast occasionally I’d get people waving back. Those were the days. Just to let you know, next year my Mum, Dad & I are planning on going on a piece of canal that apparently is 45 miles lock free. Apparently you could go on to the Ribble to go to Liverpool but when my dad mentioned it, it was met with a definite NO! I wonder why!!! 😂

I've come to appreciate how beautiful narrowboat Silver Fox is in her simplicity. After seeing the color schemes of so many of the other boats, I sometimes wonder if these boats were next to a paint store when an explosion happened. Anyway, I'm convinced if Colin had been my teacher in high school my grades would have been much better since he has an uncanny way of making most anything interesting. Hugs to the 3 of you!

Those black and white bridges are so pretty, and how amazing that they are the first ‘mass produced’ ones. As for the horn…. Definitely no horn! It's a good thing you were able to slow down in time and weren't nearer to the junction. I still favour Brindley's method. Less locks and more scenery and unexpected vistas round each bend.

Hi Colin and Shaun, loved this weeks vlog, really interesting. I have a new found admiration of your chosen lifestyle living on a narrow boat. We hired one for the day yesterday, it was lovely but such hard work!!, to do it on a daily basis would kill me 😂. I’m still aching from raising the lift bridge twice at Portland Basin 😂😂 We went from Portland Basin Ashton Under Lyne to Marple on your favourite peak forest canal, we weren’t allowed on the locks - thank goodness ! I really admire the way you make it all look so easy and relaxing 😊😊😊. Foxy member Chris xxx

Thank you for explaining the bit about how to regulate going through the tunnels. I was especially intrigued by the ironwork depicting the boatmen pushing the boat along the walls of the tunnel. Glad to see you guy's on this week's vlog.. Unusual to find a privately owned boat not using their horn ! It's usually the hire boaters that forget.. trouble is I used to find it very annoying and I often had stern word's with those that didn't comply... Blooming Audi and BMW drivers of the waterways.. You Guys Stay Safe and Well, great viewing as always. Very Best Wishes, Old Skipper :) xx

Fascinating as always, it's amazing that they would take an aqueduct and bury it, underneath a waterway! Although I suppose being buried it would just about eliminate any maintenance costs. Also I hadn't realised that so many arms where from the straightening of the canal. Quick question- as full time cruisers, are you allowed to pay and stay in a marina for more than two weeks or do you still have to keep moving?

TRAAAAIN! I bet Tony Robinson and the Time Team Gang would have had a field day with that buried aquaduct! I'm seeing a lot more boats with a more traditional paint job that I used to. Is this intentional on your part or are more people going back to the traditional paint schemes? Great show guys! Videography, music, etc. are so professional. Thanks and keep up the quality entertainment. I actually feel like I've been there! Oh! And I never heard any horn toots back at that junction. I think the other boater was just covering for his mistake.
