In the late fall of 1964, Wong Jack Man squeezed into the brown Pontiac Tempest, which already had five more people. The group left Chinatown in San Francisco - the oldest and largest in the United States. They crossed the bay over the Bay Bridge connecting San Francisco and Oakland and drove up to the new Kung Fu School on Broadway Avenue in Oakland, which was recently opened by Bruce Lee, who moved to Oakland from Seattle. This visit was preceded by several weeks of war of words. The tension grew and, finally, the moment of truth came...

Bruce Lee saved my life. I was 13 when FoF opened in my home town. 5 yrs later my cousin and I were studying and practising JKD. We became quite good at light sparring but never practised full contact. Didn't matter coz 20 yrs later a man with a knife tried to mug me. He woke up in the ambulance with multiple fractures. Thank you Bruce.

@@nekonapper No. In real life Bruce didn't do that. I told him to F off a few times while evading his lunges. On his 5th lunge I didn't evade. He got a side kick to the chest that sent him and the knife flying then a kick to the face while he was getting up. Then I put an arm lock on his right arm, swept his feet and dropped his left shoulder into the edge of the kerb. As we went to ground my knee landed on his face and he went unconscious... oops. Cops turned up and cuffed me... until 2 witnesses said I was the victim. Cops phoned me days later to say, laughing, that he wanted me charged with excessive force coz he had fractured sternum, nose, jaw and shoulder. Of course it never happened. Hopefully it was the last time he ever said "give me your f-ing wallet" to anyone.

i agree with you to a certain extent he wanted to make it big in the industry but the other side of Bruce is that he wanted to change the way that the world perceived Chinese people and the culture and there is no doubt in my mind that he opened the door to the western world to a side of not only Chinese culture but the whole of Asia in a way that nobody else had ever done before there was a time in Hollywood where Chinese characters were not allowed to be played by Chinese actors I mean take every kids hero cowboy John Wayne and the only movie he should never have starred in ghengis Kahn Bruce paved the way for change in cinema how long would it have taken if not for Bruce would we have such iconic action star’s as Jackie chan jet li or Donnie Yen Yes he wanted super stardom but also he wanted to change the way the world looked at the Chinese people and culture and we are still talking about him over 50 years after his death I think he’s done that and I will always remember him and the legacy he has left behind

@@StevieRevbo Depends on what you are referencing. His movies, for example, were mainly used to push his philosophy of adapting and being water while trying to entertain the masses. They did not teach any realistic fighting. The movie fights were choreographed for the sake of entertainment. They have no basis of reality in fighting or teaching martial arts. Bruce Lee was not just an actor. When I mentioned his art being ever evolving I was referring to his Jeet Kune Do martial arts and his push for physical fitness. In this, Bruce Lee was a pioneer whose research influenced body builders, nutrition experts, electric physical therapy as well as his research into more efficient fighting whether you are on your feet or it becomes a ground fight. There is a show called "How Bruce Lee Changed the World" that explores these topics in much more detail than I can write here.

Bruce Lee was hidden because he fell in love with a woman and after having kids was executed because of the color of his skin and shape of his eyes. Racist are known globally but love is only seen when something is wanted and because of these thieves their satellite recorded all of this by the law of one, mistake. Two, watching. Three recording for the whole world to see. Law of the United States when the Unity of global countries established. He had heard about it from a friend, we both went to see it, both of us were totally gobsmacked at how anyone could fight this way and move so fast. Although we were only thirteen at the time, we realized that the fight scenes would have been choreographed, but the moves that bruce performed were totally phenomenal, I have been a fan ever since as I am sure that anyone who has seen his films or had the pleasure of seeing him fight would be. This is a really well researched and accurate representation. David Chin is a friend of my dad's and has told him the same story for years. David was there, and actually takes credit for goading WJM into fighting Bruce. David saw BL's presentation at Sun Sing Theater and got pissed off at the things BL was saying on stage. It was never about BL teaching Gung Fu to non-Chinese, it was all about wanting to put a "big mouth" in his place.

I began my Karate lessons on Okinawa from one of the greats, then in CA switched styles to Shotokan ryu kyu under Robert Halliburton, and also fought many times and still am a true believer that having a black belt does not make you a weapon but being able to fight in MMA or on the street you need to understand that Karate alone will not make you a good fighter, many skills are necessary and most important is having no fear of feeling pain, but learning how to not feel pain is what I learned from Shihan Halliburton in what is called the power of Ki but understanding it. All the stories I heard about Bruce Lee you just verified in this video. Thanks for posting.

There are THOSE that the World will Never Know (They weren't 'MEDIA-fighters') that would have handed 'Mr Lee' his Teeth ... No MATTER How GOOD you (Think you) ARE ... It's all a big hyped up load of nonsense of a man who knew martial arts and starred in movies, all fight scenes choreographed to death making fight scenes look perfect to the eye, drawing in the audience to a man who could supposedly beat up 20 people in one go all by him self so if the watcher believes this your either stupid or gullible to think a one man can beat up 20 opponents all attacking at once, in the real world Bruce would get a few shots him and have his ass handed to him I don't care how much martial arts training you have 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When I was a kid I used to sneak out of my second story bedroom window - shimmy down the drain pipe and ride my bike for 25 mins to the local drive in - then I would climb over the fence at the back and sit near the last row and if there were no cars near by I would take two speaker put them on the ground crank it and watch a double feature of The Master himself Bruce Lee - his legend will live on forever - the above story was facinating for me as for I never new the real story until now. Long Live the memory of the Real and only DRAGON !!!

I was stationed at Treasure Island Marine Corp base a couple of years after this time, I did not know any of the Lee people but there was much going on about the fighting styles then. I had only taken what course that the Marines gave us; at that time. Mostly judo, etc. Once i got out of the service I acquired several good martial arts magazines on kung Fu and several other styles . I practiced some of the principles and philosophy of it and was really filled with zest. I was super fast, catching flies, Humming birds and rattle snakes was no problem. I held on to those magazines for ever and learned by heart what they taught. One at a time I gladly gave those, ( Jewels of Wisdom) to others that were more into fighting than I. I still have some books left and cherish them. Bruce's teachings gave me a peaceful zest in life I had never known. A big thanks to the other guy who put out the Kung Fu mags. Now at 74 am still fast but only for my age, my mind still functions of the Zen principle to keep my youthful feeling alive. Thanks for the video.

The fight between Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man was a turning point for Lee. Though he was a skilled practitioner in Wing Chun, he was disappointed in his own physical conditioning because he was winded by the end of the encounter. The fight was only a few minutes long and involved more running than actual combat; this was something Bruce hadn’t trained for. He trained himself, and his students, techniques in face to face fighting, not running around. Though Bruce’s skills, and techniques, were far better than Wong’s, Bruce came away with two realizations; he couldn’t finish his opponent fast enough, and he had to condition himself for prolonged engagements. He also realized that the slight changes he had made to His core techniques in Wing Chun were insufficient. This caused him to examine every aspect of his own fighting skills; which lead to the ever changing system of Jeet Kune Do. His early JKD was still heavily based in Wing Chun; most upper body and foot work was linear, side stepping only enough to keep your centerline to one side of the opponent. But Bruce continued to improve his endurance, speed, strength, power, economy of movement, and techniques from other systems; from this, true JKD emerged. He never stopped refining his techniques (as Bruce put it: “Removing the fancy mess of martial arts”), and practiced “Critical examination of his own methods“. He tested every technique in real full contact training on a daily basis. Don Inosanto said they practiced almost daily, and Bruce’s skills change almost daily as well, because he was constantly working on a better way to overcome his opponent. He said there were times when he felt like a punching bag, because for every partial strike he landed, Bruce would hit him several times; sometimes hard enough to put him on the ground gasping for air. While most MMA fighters recognize Bruce Lee’s work as the foundation they built upon; most traditional martial art forms don’t recognize JKD as a true martial art because it didn’t originate a thousand years ago. To me that’s nonsense; every aspect of JKD has its origins in some early form of fighting, most are martial arts. The fact that these techniques are combined, and refined, means they are better and more effective; in the end all that matters is who’s still standing, not how they pose or dress. I studied several traditional martial forms before finding JKD, none of those other methods really worked unless you were facing off against someone from your same style; I quickly realized they wouldn’t work in the real world because they couldn’t adapt. After learning the foundation principles of JKD I incorporated a some things from those other forms; things that worked for me. I also spared with as many skilled people from other forms as I could, and I incorporated certain aspects of those as well. The foundation is still Bruce Lee’s JKD, though mine is different; that’s what Lee had in mind, “Unless we all would have four legs and three arms, we will have different styles”. Bruce Lee was one of a kind; the right muscle fiber, rapid twitch reflex, dedication to be the best, and eye for detail, strength, power, speed, and confidence. I doubt there will ever be another Bruce Lee.
