A city, once rich in cultural and religious diversity and an economic hub of its time suffered major historic and cultural erosion when its residents migrated because of the divide of the subcontinent. This young historian has set out to discover and restore the lost heritage of Rawalpindi, here are some of his interesting discoveries.
TCM’s five-year journey has been about telling stories that people want to hear which mainstream media has been neglecting for decades. We want to disrupt the status quo by delivering engaging content which empowers impassioned voices and impacts social change. We are defined by integrity, grit and ingenuity and this is what makes us do what we do.

My beloved professor MM Oberai of IIT Kanpur, who died recently at the age of around 90, came from Rawalpindi in 1947. As I look upon these broken-down havelis, I think that these are places he must have known well. He was a gem of a person, just thinking of him makes my heart well up with tears. May he rest in peace.

@@anwarnoor2473 He retired around 1990, much before the internet was popular. I remember during his retirement speech he quoted an Urdu couplet regarding his career at the institute, which said (I cannot remember the original), "How can one describe the love of a lifetime in a moment's words?" He belonged to a generation for which "research" was not a priority, at least in India, but the building of Institutions and good teaching of basic fundamentals was their goal. MMO did all that, and besides, was a person of sterling qualities, combining reason and compassion with firmness in the inculcation of high ideals in all his dealings with students.

Jammu had considerable Muslim population true but Dogras(non muslim) and Pandits were occupying majority of the lands and important positions due to Dogra rule. And first communal violence took place in pahadi areas(today's AJK) Hindus and Sikhs flooded Jammu region,Punjab from there and told People in Jammu what was happening there in Bagh,Kotli,Mirpur,Muzaffarabad only after that non Muslims started attacking Muslims in Jammu region. This is why there was no communal riots in Kashmir valley ,the communal incidents took place in Jammu districts.

Rawalpindi was the birthplace of the 1947 genocide in Punjab. Rawalpindi district's peaceful Khatri and Arora Hindu and Sikh populations were systematically attacked in a pre-planned genocide in March 1947. Thousands of Sikhs and Hindus were slaughtered, their houses and businesses were burned and looted, women were raped, and the remaining population of Hindus and Sikhs were forced to flee to the eastern districts of Punjab. Mr. Jinnah and his Muslim League leaders did not even utter a single word to condemn this wholesale genocide of the minorities.

The whole Hindkowan (Hazarywaal) community was disrupted by the partition. The so-called new country took all of our big cities like Rawalpindi, Taxila, Nowshehra, Kohat, and even Peshawar.

I am from Rawalpindi born and my ancestors lived there since centuries .... The city is transformed to new housing societies, Unsustainable construction, people coming from all over Pakistan. We missed our city of 90s. Weather gor so warm... But still we have clean and beautiful city. When I visited Europe , it was not much different from Rawalpindi....

Read the real history of RawalPindi King Bappa Rawal king of Mewar in 738 A.D defeated Arabs and Chased them away till todays Iran and he erected guard posts at every hundred kilometres, each with one thousand troops and headed by Rajput chiefs, so that the enemy cannot dream of striking again. Thus the Islamic invasion was successfully thwarted for more than four centuries till 1192. To further fortify the North West Frontier, he built a city by name, Rawalpindi [presently in Pakistan] and made that place his military base. Stationed there, he launched sixteen successful attacks in north west, thus expanding his kingdom of Mewar upto Iran. RawalPindi even today is used as city of military base.
