I remember as a little girl my mom making crackling bread it was like a meal in itself. She probably fried chicken and cooked some kinds of greens to go with it. I am 67 now and I have never made crackling bread but I love make my homemade cornbread and I usually make it twice a month. Delicious

Ok, I was good with everything except when Jiffy was entered into the conversation lol. My mom would not allow Jiffy in the house what she would call " that cake mix" lol.😄 My mom was born in 1927 and those women back then grind their own meal. It took years before she would use self rising cornmeal she got older and had to adapt. Still, to me there is nothing like a warm slice of cornbread out of the oven or fried cornbread with fish it brings back so many good memories for me. I still have my mom's cast iron skillet she had before I was even born. Great information thanks so much for sharing. Hold dear to family and those recipes because people don't last forever. 🥲

Jiffy is "cheater", just like a boxed cake. When you want it quick and dirty and don't care about having the homemade taste it does the trick. The price makes it good if you're wanting to do one of the casseroles, but cornbread on it's own nothing beats doing it up from scratch.

@@thetruequeen6747 you're not a food snob when you kick butt at homemade stuff :). I forget who I gave my caca del pollos recipe to who complained that it was "too much for just the two of us". For me i like prepping out a lot more than what I need and putting some in the fridge and the majority in the freezer. That way when you get home from work all the prep work is already done so all you have to do it cook. As quick and easy as a meal from a box but a whole lot more tasty. Most of this younger generation doesn't know what a good homemade meal taste like. I don;t stay away from fast food because it's bad for my health, I stay away from it because it taste like what my cats leave in the box :) I may be a old fart white guy but I got my my Italian grandma's cooking gene (all the grandkids with the curly like her's got the cooking gene). :)

This is very interesting! Thank you! I love your posts, & I am a subscriber! 56-y/o white guy here, if it matters, & I have to tell you to buy a $1.96 or so "collapsible cup" so you can fill that in the bathroom at movie theatres, concerts, or wherever instead of buying $7 sodas. I got mine at Walmart (camping section), not there any more, but you can buy them online. You & your wife will love them -- & YOU'LL know what to do with them! I told some older white guy at a movie theatre (who was filling up on soda) that he "needed one," & he asked, "What do I do with it?" (Typical DUMB white guy.) Thank you again for your newsy videos! :-) / Glenn Allen

Love your content and always end up being hungry, and more educated after watching. Actually baking some cornbread right now. There'd be a lot less misunderstanding between different people if we'd just sit down and share meals with each other. I've gotten pulled over by cops in black neighborhoods a few times. Being a white guy I'll be the first one to admit that white people can't do soul food or BBQ half as good as black people. It's the same Chinese or Mexican food (Taco Bell is not Mexican food), you might be able to get it close but you can never get it to be the way that grandma made (aka 11 on a scale of 1 to 10).
