Juan Carlos Valeron was never the most talked-about player. He was only ever nominated for the Ballon d’Or once. But his career was truly remarkable and is well worth celebrating.
Juan Carlos Valeron is unassuming. He is a tall and slight evangelist, with a high-pitched voice, who is lauded for being one of the nicest people in football. He does not have a bad bone in his body; just a dead person’s tendon in his knee.
David Silva chose his shirt number, 21, in tribute to him. Andrés Iniesta described him as one of the few players he would pay to watch. Arrigo Sacchi lauded him in the same breath as Zinedine Zidane. Valeron was one of the finest midfield originators of his generation.

Well it's hard to say but he was definitely important player in that Super Depor teams especially in the time after they won the title and started winning games against some of the big clubs in Europe.

I'd say he's a level above Fran who is an underrated player in his own right. Him and Djalminha are about equal ability wise. Valeron has more top performances against big CL teams though Djalminha produced numerous top quality performances vs Madrid for instance. People might point to Djalminha's league title where he was the best player but Depor didn't have to play Champions League that season which helped an unbelievable amount.
