I'd argue The Orange Islands was the only season of the anime where there was almost no filler. They were just able to do their own thing because they weren't force to follow in the path of some game release. Personally, I think that made for the season with the most character development, world building, and fast pace. The only reason the Season ended up being somewhat anticlimactic is because they wrote out whatever they were planning for the GS Ball in the later seasons. That's not a fault of this season itself, but instead of the Johto seasons afterward. Basically, the season might've been made to stall until Gen 2 released, but that doesn't mean the content itself was filler.

I'm just gonna say it: I think Orange Islands was one of the best seasons of the anime. Tracey was such a breath of fresh air for me compared to Brock. I loved how instead of yelling over seeing any random girl, Tracey was more tasteful and just sketched ones he liked in his sketch book. The pacing of the season was also really good compared to Kanto and Johto, but I will admit its ending seemed so sudden, most likely because of Gen 2's release. Also the fact that it was Ash's first league victory against Drake and how this season came up with the ideas for double battles is a huge plus. It's kinda weird they dubbed Lorelei's name as Prima though... Overall, I'd rate Orange Islands with a 9/10.

This why I had a problem with FireRed and LeafGreen. They should implemented the orange league and all the islands.

ah yes the season without the lame brock falling for girls shtick more filler 4 less badges and ash wins...people hate on it but ash gets lapras and snorlax this season we see tracy get a scyther and it doesnt drag....I love this season..mostly cause ash acts more like he learned from the previous one and is more mature mostly..something he seems to lose at the start of every new region since...

Gold and Silver were supposed to be released mid 1998, but they got massively delayed, so the anime needed filler.

For all intents and purposes, the Orange Islands COULD still be adapted to gameplay, as a blank slate for new features and adventures. The Orre and Fiore regions introduced in Colosseum and Ranger did not appear in the anime, yet are still considered canonical. Because of its appearance as an expansive archipelago, GameFreak could still foster some potential for gameplay. Maybe a new generation of Pokemon in addition to old ones, new villains, new arcs, new features, new ways of interacting with the overworld. In other words, don't give up on it. It might be simple filler in some media, but an opportunity for others.

There's another important thing that you're forgetting. This is where charizard finally starts listening to ash.

I played a rom that was amazing and follows the storyline pretty close you must try it if you got a chance it’s called Pokémon orange islands

I actually loved the orange islands, it felt like Pokémon was exploring new directions before johto was a thing, plus the orange islands definitely played a part when they made regional variants since it had tropical Pokémon that you never see outside of the orange islands

Of all the pokemon seasons I actually watched I always loved the orange islands. He had the same pokemon, the story advances from kanto and ash won all his badges AND won the championship.

I might create a Secret project for Orange Islands, Which Contains a Original story & New Original Fakemon.

Let's Go Pikachu & Let's Go Eevee should have had the Orange Islands in the post game I would love to have collected all 4 Badges then faced Pummelo in the Orange League. FireRed & LeafGreen gave us the Sevii Islands which were amazing and the closest we will ever get to having the Orange Islands in the games. I don't think its too late to have the Orange Islands in the games at all.
