I was today years old when I learned I have been seeing seapunk art and listened to seapunk music without even knowing for a long time

I remember picking up ultrademon from the train station to a gig in Lawrance Kansas. I remember them telling me about how steampunk was more an aesthetic than a genre. This era of electronic music was awesome.

Seapunk was and still is such a fun era; I remember it like it was yesterday, scrolling on tumblr in 2013 i think, being totally in love with the weird art

I caught the tail end of seapunk as it was morphing into vaporwave and remember thinking it was wild that people could find early 90s aesthetics appealing, I'm feeling exactly the same way about younger gen z's love of frutiger aero now

Seapunk also had several punk bands that re did old sea shanty songs, and don't forget the Sea Foam slushie from Sonic that had the right aesthetic color. Sea u down at Asbury Park at the Shore!

I have no horse in this race, but Shan deserves some recognition for establishing seapunk's flash in the pan. Either way, some of the (as far as I could find) only-one-song-ever-made-bands's pop songs that came out of this scene are incredibly good. This was a great summer lol.

Primary writer for the Aesthetics Wiki article on Seapunk here; fantastic video. And yeah, when I was writing that article, research for it was a PAIN IN THE ASS because so much of it has been lost to time. But from that research, I have discovered that Ultrademon is still releasing music as not only Ultrademon, but also as Lilium Kobayashi (has even released an album as recently as 2022). Ultrademon has also since come out as trans. It also reminds me that 2010s hipsters and their tendency to gatekeep to shit makes research for these sorts of things EXTREMELY hard for the sake of documentation.

No fucking way. I've been trying to tell people about this for years oh my god. I've been waiting for this video for so long Edit: as a long time seapunk, vaporwave, and witch house enjoyer pretty much everything in this video was spot on EXCEPT I do think seapunk music had it's own identity. A lot of ultrademon and other artists songs frequently featured dripping water sounds, splashing sounds, dolphin sounds, and used either nightcore or chopped and screwed type vocals. I still listen to seapunk on sound cloud to this day ngl ^^;

Dawg im rly sad i didnt know abt this. I was pastel goth when this was popular and had my hair died half peppermint green and blue gray. I had a fucking holographic seal phonecase. I had a mermaid aesthetic phase just 2 yrs before that too. I could have pulled some sick shit. Im not rly that vibe at all anymore so if i tried itd be rly forced and i wouldnt have fun, but ill def keep it in mind.
