Hi guys, wondering if you would consider allowing us to use some of this footage in a music video we are planning for release in October? Great filming.

Hi. Beautiful footage! I'm creating an induction video for new employees at work. We are based in Rosyth, on the shore of the forth. I'd love to use some of this footage. Would that be okay? I would of course reference the source.

Are you allowed to fly that high near to an airport ?

I wouldn't recommend flying here, the signal is poor at times, thanks for watching, looking forward to checking out your channel Andy Gibson.

Not without permission, no. And most certainly not at these heights. Very illegal. Jail time for these guys is the only way to discourage this very dangerous practice imho.

@@ClanLawrenceYou make an excellent point, so I've added my thoughts. I'm a pilot, I also recently bought a small drone to try it out. In terms of current regulations, the bridges are actually outside the Flight Restriction Zone in Class D airspace. Current regulations indicate that it is legal to fly a drone less than 400 ft without special permission in Class D. In terms of altitude. If the person or organisation responsible for a very tall structure over 105m asks you to carry out a task related to their structure, you’re allowed to fly higher than 400ft. For example, if they ask you to take pictures for a survey. You must never fly more than 15m above the structure. Your drone or model aircraft must be within 50m of the structure horizontally when flying over 400ft. It must be in visual line of sight. Like all rules they can be moved with special permission. As an aircraft pilot I've flown over the bridges. The minimum height is 1000 ft (or 2000 ft if over high terrain) above the highest fixed obstacle within 8 km of the aircraft except when taking off or landing. The new bridge is about 700ft tall. So an altitude of no less than 1700 ft would be required to be legal as a VFR pilot. I would be looking to transit higher than that to be on the safe side. Edinburgh Air Traffic keep you right as a pilot as well, they are excellent. Personally I wouldn't fly a drone here. If I did I would probably notify the National Air Traffic Service (Nats), the Ports Authority, and the police, just to be polite. Somebody is likely to make a call so it's better that they are aware. If I did fly a drone here I would be concerned that something may go wrong with the drone and it flies up into active airspace. Some consumer drones are capable of flying up to 20,000 ft. Depending on the drone type it may have security vulnerabilities that could be exploited, to hijack the drone. Tougher regulations are comming. Personally my preference is class G airspace for drones, but I'm a novice drone pilot. The new drone regulations are complicated so a drone flyer would need to thourghly plan their drone flight. If you get it wrong penalties are steep (potential jail time, criminal record, or a fine and confiscation). Its also a very high profile site that would attract media attention. For me as a recreational model flier it's too risky, unless I was working for company doing a bridge survey.. 😆🤣😂 In terms of impact.damage between a drone and an aircraft, it would be significant. It could enter the cockpit blinding the pilot, it could penetrate a wing, many fuel tanks are held in the wings, mogas(leaded petrol) and lithium polymor batteries don't mix well. The result could be explosive. Control surfaces could also be damaged, leading to a loss of control. I've no idea about a collision with helicopter rotors.

@@andrewbuchanan69 My initial comment is a year old, so yes, it is perfectly lawful to fly drones here these days. The max height is still 400ft AGL which the video in question is still in breach of. Either way, it is always a good idea to notify the controlling ATC unit when flying inside controlled airspace. In this case, that would be Edinburgh ATC (ANS, not NATS). BTW, "National Air Traffic Services" no longer exists. They had a rebranding back in 2001 when they were part privatised and became simply "NATS", which now doesn't stand for anything 😁
@andrewbuchanan693 жыл бұрын
@@ClanLawrence yeah I agree it looks in breach at that height, I've been flying for 20 years, I've not flown since 2017 so I'm rusty now lol.
