Well done, like so many things in sport it's doubtless largely due to confidence. I have learned to swim and skateboard as an adult and once you've beaten the fear factor it becomes easier.

Tell him some encouragement might be more useful than yelling at you. Yell at him and see how he likes it. PE teachers either think they are army sergeants or let you get away with not even trying, no happy medium!

Build up through consistent practice. Perfect your forward roll. From there you can do a very small jump into forward roll. As you get comfortable, start to make the jump even greater until you are able to dive roll. Once you can dive roll, add a large hoop to the equation. The most common mistake is the legs bending in the air and clipping the hoop; once you dive keep the same body tension and position until the roll. Always aim to follow the curvature of the spine for a smooth landing.

Thank youuuuu! I've finally done it! Took ages but worth it. My rolls are slightly splayed but otherwise I get the point you made there that you are not supposed to land on your neck. I can't do it before so I tried doing your round back routine to be able to do my rolls properly. And now I'm finally able to do it. Requires more practice to perfect it though 😁

Thanks a lot for making this tutorial. I had learned how to do a forward roll when I was about 5 or 6, but as the years went by, I forgot how to do it, and eventually became too scared to try. I am now 16, and having found gymnastics recently, I wanted to regain my lost ability to do a forward roll. I watched literally dozens of videos wherein people were doing forward rolls, but yours was the video that gave me the exact information I needed in order to do one. Thanks again!

Thanks for your support! To build solid core strength you should immerse yourself in bodyweight and gymnastics training; a lot of the training requires a tight midsection with a hollow shape. See our back lever tutorial for dish and superman drills as well as THE Handstand Tutorial for a description on what the hollow body shape is.
