Ange Postecoglou questioned Spurs' "fragile foundations" after their defeat to Manchester City in an apparent reference to the furore around stopping Arsenal winning the title.
The Spurs boss watched his side's own Champions League hopes go up in smoke as they lost a fifth game out of six, which guaranteed Aston Villa fourth spot in the Premier League.

We knew this when Pochettino was there. We knew this when Mourinho was there. We knew this when Conte was there. And we know this even now. The club isn't geared to be winners or competitors. It's modelled to make money. As long as Daniel Levy continues to oversee operations, the club's model will always be to give head coaches as little backing as possible and expect them to over achieve.

The last week has annoyed the hell out of me as a spurs fan. I couldn't give a damn whether Arsenal win the league or not. If they do, its because they've been the best side for the entire season - not because of what Spurs do vs City. A proportion of the fan base has now really cheesed off the best manager we've had in a long while...all because of their totally irrelevant feelings towards Arsenal.

I feel similar as an arsenal fan; we shouldn’t be relying it even caring what spurs do vs city and if we wanna win the league we cant leave it up to other clubs doing us a favour. Arsenal aren’t winning the league this year because we simply weren’t quite as good as city were.

The media aren't without blame here too. They've stirred things up all week. O'Hara wearing a City shirt last night was just embarrassing. The vast majority of Spurs fans are better than that, and feel the same way Ange does.

Only the last week. I’ve been annoyed since January. This is all noise and a deflection from the poor performance of the team since the New Year. Why is this City nonsense the main talking point instead of us losing seven games and being battered by 3 and 4 goals by Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea? I didn’t see this level of outrage then. I don’t care if Ange is cheesed off with the fans. I’m cheesed off with his tactics and the team constantly losing at the tail end of the season. He and the team have had plenty of support throughout the season even when getting poor results. Let’s be clear the team and the tactics employed have lost game after game. That’s not the fans fault and that’s what the real issue is here. Not a one off game that we were unlikely to win anyway based on current form. He needs to suck it up and do his job for which he is handsomely paid and get the team playing instead of criticising the fan base that adores him.

I’m ashamed to be a Spurs fan, it’s an utter disgrace the way some of the fan base behaved, it’s has no place in any sport! It’s not love for our club, it’s misguided, uncontrollable, juvenile hatred for another, masquerading as loyalty….I hope Ange walks, he deserves better!!!!

Villa fan here. I like Spurs and like to see them doing well. I agree 100% about the behaviour of some of the fans in that game, absolutely disgraceful. A losing mentality, focusing more on another club than on your club. I think Ange probably felt a mixture of embarrassment, disappointment and anger.

Some of the fan base. As someone that was at the ground last night I don’t think it was the majority. Despite my issues with his lack of tactics and pragmatism, Ange is the best manager we’ve had since Poch in terms of us playing exciting on the front foot football. He just needs to temper that with some common sense in my view. Yet you as a fan want him to walk. That speaks volumes. Maybe you’re not as much of a fan as you think you are! No man including Ange is bigger than the club.

@@LisaPottinger I think you’ve illustrated my point beautifully… Do I think a manager like Ange deserves better than a (hopefully minority) fanbase who think he ‘lacks common sense’ and ‘tactical awareness’, puts in a monster effort to turn a club around to be heckled and abused by that very fanbase and repeatedly instructed to throw a game….after a long career of being loved everywhere he’s been as well as amassing a fair deal of silverware….Its not about being bigger than the club, it’s not about who’s ’a bigger fan’, it’s simply a matter of fact that respected and supported managers tend to achieve more than their counterparts at the opposite end of the spectrum!!!

Won two championships in a row with Celtic, where they lost the championship for the first time in 9 years the previous season. played beautiful ball with a clear identity in the meantime. He's got what it takes to get to the top. Possibly he can even do wonders with Tottenham, but only if players are decluttered and he signs the players he actually wants.

Born and bred North London boy whole family been Arsenal since my grandad came here from the Caribbean, and I’ve never personally seen Spurs as rivals. Seems like the rivalry is mostly from their side. Can’t really be rivals if they ain’t ever competing with us for any trophies. Hopefully Ange leaves.

The media incited fans to do this for the past couple of weeks. They kept talking about it non-stop, they normalized it and that's what happened. Now they act as if they had nothing to do with it. I think Spurs fans now realize how embarrassing they were last night. Their players needed them and they let their club down.

That’s because the media have no morals or principles - not even in a genocide, much less in a sporting competition. Ange must have been rightly pissed when the media, instead of focusing on meaningful discussions at press conferences, kept asking him the frivolous questions about helping Arsenal.

We had an easy fixture list at the start of the season. But the Premier League absolutely stuffed us with the scheduling having Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City all in the space of 5 weeks. Of course we’ve been on a bad run. Also, our tactics have been found out, add the poor mentality of some people in the club. Need some changes next season. Ange stays, some players and staff go who have a poor mentality, and have a plan B please Ange. We need it.

Exactly, where was this speech after our 4th loss in a row against liverpool. It seems to me he is taking it out on the fans who have been here at the club much longer than he has and will still be there after he leaves and now he has caused infighting within our own fanbase instead of trying to bring us together. Ive backed Ange all season but to turn around just because of this one game and deflecting blame towards the fans of all people leaves a really bad taste in the mouth.

You know why he said that? Because he probably is sick and tired of Tottenham Hotspur as a club and its fanbase always worrying about other club's success and failures. They are always about "stopping Arsenal", "preventing Chelsea", etc rather than focusing on how they can improve themselves. Once Tottenham stops doing that, maybe they will push on.

I've been a football fan for thirty years and I've never seen anything as embarrassing as Spurs fans cheering for City last night. Absolutely tiny mentality. Spurs are officially a joke, and Ange must be perplexed by all this. I'm a United fan. If we'd beaten Arsenal the other night we'd have handed the title to City. We still cheered on the team and wanted to win. I've never seen anything quite like last night. Bizarre.

We lost 4 in a row before Burnley, we lost to wolves away after being in front on the 90th minute, we lost to West Ham at home when cruising. But actually in fact they're still in with a chance if West Ham draw whereas Spurs missed out on CL completely because of their flop.
