In the novel written by Andrew Robinson, the assassination of the Proconsul is described in more detail. Basically, Garak earns his trust by pretending to be a simple gardener (a role which suits him since he grew up as the son of a gardener on Cardassia) and then gives him one of the orchids as a present for his garden, which subsequently kills the Proconsul. And before you ask: No, the gardener was NOT Garak's real father, but he didn't knew it at the time.
@keithtorgersen96648 ай бұрын
@panther7748, this seems confusing as he seemed to know even as a little boy that his father was Enabran Tain, at least from the story that Tain told about the riding hound before he died
@panther77488 ай бұрын
@@keithtorgersen9664 In the novel, he grews up in Tain's house, as the son of his housekeeper. However, the intially thinks that the gardener is his father and only later it is revealed that Tain is his real father and Elim is effectively his illegitimate son with the housekeeper. (The gardener was the housekeepers brother (Elim's uncle) who pretended to be his father for Elim and for people who didn't knew the household closely because a person without official parents has a very low status in Cardassian society). So perhaps the story makes sense because they lived in the same house and Tain new that Elim was his son, but Elim didn't.
@keithtorgersen96648 ай бұрын
@Panther774, totally randomly, your comment about cardassians without official parents have low status in society, it actually breaks my heart because it reminds me of that tragic scene where Garak sees those Cardassian war orphans on Bajor, and he knows he can’t do anything for them, and they give him these heartbreaking looks.

That's true however the whole premise of this show that Odo needed the help of other founders to cure him is silly. We know the founders sent MANY young changelings across the galaxy to explore and bring information back to them. If this need of the great link was real and Odo being one of the first young ones to return home from so far away was already in danger, then the other changlings they knowingly sent out would all die horribly. So what would be the point? Good old trek boldy forgetting what came before. :)

I think the Founder had come to realize that there were exceptional individual's in Odo's life, but exceptional individuals weren't the problem. And she was right, to a point. The alpha quadrant species would have been envious and afraid of the Changeling's abilities, even if they had approached peacefully. I would say that the thing to have done was to have Sisko get the Founders to block access to the wormhole, or at least THROUGH the wormhole. I think there was some non-canon comments about a Dominion fleet that had already been on the way, and would take decades to arrive.
@LM-xw7ii7 ай бұрын
That's a pretty good point. Honestly, it would have been a lot better for the Dominion to blockade the wormhole and keep the Alpha Quadrant out. They could have worked from the shadows with a small band of changelings, fueling conflicts to inhibit their growth and discourage unity. And then, eventually, the Dominion would have outpaced them because they wouldn't have been dealing with problems like that.

is this where Section 31 infected Odo, so he can infect the founders?

Sisko was the most mule headed captain of them all. I mean the Dominion had the defiant in their hands all this time and all he cared about was about one person. Not giving two cents about losing or giving valuable info. Thank god the prophets were on their side. A higher power that gave them an edge.
@majorsynthqed7374 Жыл бұрын
Sisko knew they would do nothing that would put Odo at risk. The fact that he was willing to put himself at risk for Odo garnered respect from the enemy. It was razor-edge diplomacy worth the risk. Sisko had the balls to do the one move that would save Odo and keep all of them safe. It was a calculated risk with the reward worth the risk. Mule-headed? Hardly.

Only in Star Trek are women so frightening. From the Founders to thee Borg, Star Trek Heros take on the girls and win the universe. The little masculine anxiety expressed by O'Brian about Keiko just before the Female Founder's arrive only reinforces this point. Of course, O'Brien is immediately attacked by the Founders' all-male goon squad while the female founder herself takes center stage as the enemy.

It always bothered me that the Founders despise solids yet when they do it becomes a female with large breasts!!
