I have the 478 version. It is pretty much a good close range SD knife that I use in combination with a CRKT M16-04SF. In fact I like it so much I'm going to get a 599 version and trainer. Yes, I do carry and use for SD purposes although only when at my second home in SE Asia where things can get seriously violent in places (no I am not capable of just "running away" either). For the stiff deployment there is an easy solution that I use on most of my folders. I completely disassemble the knife then with a dremel type tool and fine polishing compound I lightly polish/smooth all the bearing surfaces especially the side ones where the washers are. When assembling again I lightly(!) coat the surfaces with either teflon or moly grease depending on the washer materials. After that the knives are generally super smooth and don't need any extra oiling etc. for quite a long time. That all takes about 30mins at a snails pace.

Any problems with the liner lock? Heard a lot of them had issues with lock failure.

I collect a few folding knives if look at my channel you will see. I bought a karambit to see what it was all about. It was just a budget one. But I'm not sure I am keen on them. They are like marmite.

It is a grey area. If you carried in public you would need a very good excuse such as you were a weapons expert on your way to your day job demonstrating edged weapons. And you would need to prove it. Saying you use it for fishing or camping would likely not go down well.. Even for private ownership in the home it is a grey area. It could in theory fall foul of the knuckleduster ban which lists even a one fingered covering on a weapon as a "knuckleduster" and bans private ownership.

OK. So if you cut the ring off a karambit, modify it into something else, or unscrew the part with the ring, the knife will become legal to keep at home in the UK?!

@@thatgearguy How about if you have the practice knife? the one that doesn't have an edge, still illegal under the knuckleduster law?
