“The Funeral” by Band of horses is a song that explains what love really means but it’s not just love, it’s more of a deeper connection. “The Funeral” is basically explaining what it’s like to find the “one” or your “soulmate”. It’s about someone who finds love but loses it. The “funeral” is for the love that they no longer have but it doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a bad thing. To know out of the 7 billion people on this earth that you’ve found your someone is something to appreciate, even if someday you no longer have it. Even if you lose that connection, you’ll never forget that feeling of being with them and you can always hold onto that. I just really love this song because it’s something I hope to find someday and even if I lose it by whatever circumstance, it’s better to of loved and lost than never to of loved at all.

This song reminds me about “the funeral” I’ve had with a past relationship that for a number of reasons was so right and so wrong at the same time. An incredible person whom I loved and lost. Life is cruel, unfair and unjust sometimes, but the time with that special someone who makes you feel special and important and for whom you do the same is unforgettable. If you have it now, cherish it and enjoy it while you have the chance. If you haven’t had it yet, don’t settle and sell yourself short. If you’ve had it and lost it, you know the true meaning of this song.

Here's the actual lyrics... I'm coming up only to hold you under And coming up only to show you're wrong And to know you is hard; we wonder... To know you all wrong; we warn. Ooooooooh Oooooooooh Ooooooooh Oooooooooh Really too late to call, So we wait for morning To wake you is all we got To know me as hardly golden Is to know me all wrong, they warn. At every occasion I'll be ready for the funeral At every occasion, once more, it's called the funeral At every occasion, oh, I'm ready for the funeral At every occasion, oh, one billion day funeral I'm coming up only to show you're down for And coming up only to show you're wrong. To the outside, the dead leaves lay on the lawn For they don't have trees to hang upon. Ooooooooh Oooooooooh Ooooooooh Oooooooooh At every occasion I'll be ready for the funeral At every occasion, once more, it's called the funeral At every occasion, oh, I'm ready for the funeral Every occasion, oh, one billion day funeral

Uber Dragon I finally have what it means to me. Loved a girl who took me to the highest of highs in love. Then took me to lowest I have ever acted towards a gal I once loved. Just along slow miserable summer waiting for her to come around. Saw glimpses of her beauty, felt what could of been between us, otherwise it was just the slow death of us.we broke up all the time and got back together over and over. Always that sad despair in my gut. Everyday was a funeral. She talks so much shit and I want to show her up just to show her up instead of doing it for the right reasons. Every time I walked away she would pull me in. We create our own misery, I was done , I buried all that I felt and walked away we were done.... Now she is pregnant.. Every occasion I am waiting...

It's been literally years since I've heard this. I remember I met a girl in a Barnes & Noble... I was only in 8th grade, but I figured I could still talk to her-- Her name was Amanda. She was a university student and a yet-to-be-published poet. As the subject of conversation shifted to music, I asked her her favorite band. She told me it was BoH, and her favorite song at the moment was The Funeral. I listened to it, loved it, and forgot it entirely. I never saw the girl again. It's been nearly five years since last I heard this, and it's still just like the first time...

I believe this song is about loss. That everything we have in life will eventually be lost. No matter how hard we hold on to something or someone we´ll eventually lose them. Even the ideas we have of someone or something will be lost, because we´ll never know their truth, their true nature as we´re only limited to the perception we have about them, never knowing what they´re truly about. So there´s no purpose on holding on to them because they´ll eventually be lost. And therefore no hope either. And I believe that´s the beauty of it, to understand that we have nothing in life but simply our will. To live, to accept, to be and exist, doing everything we can with whatever we have, to finally leave, alone, in peace and empty-handed, leaving everything and nothing behind. Very beautiful.

Used to love this song, then my grandmother died that i was super close too. I played this driving to her funeral and cried to it, i heard it on how i met your mother and almost started crying in front of my girlfriend. Still love this song, just hurts to hear it. Miss you mom-mom

this song is one of those foreshadowing moments where you dont realise it until it happens. i guarantee nobody heard this song, knew it was called the funeral and guessed that the mother will die. but in the scene where shes introduced, they play this song. god i love himym
