Doctoral student, Irami Osei-Frimpong, weighs in reporting alleging that the FBI and DOD have vetted Hollywood films prior to their release.
About Rising:
Rising is a weekday morning show with bipartisan hosts that breaks the mold of morning TV by taking viewers inside the halls of Washington power like never before. The show leans into the day's political cycle with cutting edge analysis from DC insiders who can predict what is going to happen. It also sets the day's political agenda by breaking exclusive news with a team of scoop-driven reporters and demanding answers during interviews with the country's most important political newsmakers.

He made great use of them, tho, no? Very quickly he drew my attention to a large array of problems that exist within both the entertainment industry & the DoD... & how them being in bed together could ONLY create problems/propaganda. I knew A relationship existed (& that Hollywood has to play nice w/govt entities to get their permits, licenses, sometimes tax credits, etc...) I just did NOT realize to what extent. Like, I wasn't even close.

@Derrick Blanton I bet they have a full staff getting hourly pay and a set budget. Camera crew, lighting, makeup, catering, etc... Also, Funky Academic is a regular, so he probably has a contract with the Hill to provide a certain amount of content per month, if he goes over, they may have to pay more. Who knows?... I do know that shows like this have a set budget, as opposed to a free form podcast with one or two people running everything.

@Derrick Blanton Absolutely agree! My guess would be because, unfortunately, Rising is under a corporation. And sure Spotify is a corporation but aside from music their structure for podcasts is not in line with a daily news show as rising. Nonetheless, Rising is abandoning a fabulous opportunity for it's viewers.
@rustatum2382

@Derrick Blanton unfortunately, Americans subconsciously equate big budget with authenticity. It's not just boomers, I even know millennials with masters degrees who assume all youtube news shows are Alex Jones type conspiracy, and stupidly trust CNN and MSNBC. Rising has found a good balance of corporate funding, but a little more freedom to speak against the corporate hegemony that controls the dialog on cable news. The Hill is far from perfect, but I understand how the pseudo professional facade gives it a legit appeal for the cable news sheep.

The gaming industry is larger than the movie industry and there is a huge problem with companies censoring games that are intended to also be released in China. It is too expensive to make two versions of a game and they don't want to be blacklisted by China so they self censor.

@@christianhernandez5928 I don’t know of the gaming industry but there is a Hollywood director, Chris Fenton, who has come out and acknowledged that the movie industry changes movies to suit China. I think it was the Marvel movies where he talked about removing the black actor on the China posters and other things they were/were not allowed to do and had to write script around. You can find his interview on KZfaq. He was all for it originally because he realized how much profit they could make for the media companies with having China viewers, but realized over time it was at great expense. I am sure he is not well liked in Hollywood. You might have to put your partisan hat aside if you have one because I think the only person willing to interview him is from a conservative news outlet, from my recall. It was an interesting interview and seemed sincere.

Hollywood was very instrumental in depicting Arabs as "mindless fanatics" hating USA for no rational reasons. That dehumanizing work was very useful to allow the slaughter of the two Gulf Wars. I think the real question here is how do you increase the "value" of transparency over privacy. Because right now it's in the vice-versa.

I knew about this already, but didn't know the first time I watched shows like "Alias" that any shows/movies are 100% vetted with veto power by the military if they show the military. The Funky Academic is one of my favorite guests on Rising. By having a time constraint, his pieces here are (IMHO) much more focused and therefore better than the videos on his own channel.

Explains why movies are so dumb. It isn't that Americans don't understand irony, our films don't express it because it would expose the truth.

Would've helped if he had cited at least one example of a film shot on a military base or with D.O.D. cooperation. Without any examples you're no better than Fox News or MSNBC.
