For anyone watching in late 2019: This match was the last one in the group stage of an invitational tournament, so in terms of points for the calculation of world ranking, the results wouldn't have had too much of an impact. Also, Saive had already been eliminated from the tournament by this point, so winning wouldn't have mattered, and since he and Chuang are good friends, why not have some fun? Unfortunately I didn't catch it live back then, but I remember this going viral on the interwebs that night and I was rolling on the floor because I was laughing so hard

Saive retired about an year after this game, having played at the Olympics a record 7 times straight since 1988, when the sport was first introduced there. Chih-Yuan is 15 years younger than him and currently the world no. 26 with a bright future.

Chuang is likely going to retire after this Olympics. He played during the period where the nation did not fund athletic training programs and spent all his savings and some more to build the first dedicated table tennis training facility.

What I understand: Saive is very skilled. Saive is severely outmatched. Saive is a freakin comedian. Chuang has a heart of gold and plays along, turns out he is also a freakin comedian. The officials are LEGENDS. EDIT: Apparently Saive was not outmatched, just having fun in an exhibition toward the end of his career. I mean, clearly they are both incredible players, that much is obvious. I didn't mean to imply otherwise

No Saive does not appear to be outmatched. He is goofing off and having fun. He consistently gives his opponent easy slams on purpose and yet keeps returning them. That is not criticism of his opponent, only a defense of Saive's skill.
