No Carlos tweets? Luckiest red flag ever. Carlos literally went from out of the race 1/3rd of the lap in to finishing 3rd all because of the crash and not one tweet? The answer to why we didn't see the crash live is carlos pulled off to the side at the casino due to a punctured tire. 3rd pulling over vrs watching the back markers, you put the cameras on 3rd pulling over all day.

They called it back to just before the shenanigans at Turn 1, so it was like it never happened. I don't like it either, but everyone I've argued with said that's the rules - so I'll take them for that. K-Mag still needs a race ban, though, no idea how he skirted that.

It’s honestly BS. Everyone except Zhou already did the first sector and Zhou was last and had to slow down. We could’ve had an interesting race with the fastest car at the back of the field and Leclerc up against 2 McLarens but the FIA are probably in Santander’s pockets.

Yeah, I was expecting Matt to do a segment about it, essentially every team was trying to drive slow to either create or deny pit stops. Russ was slow because the only way Max would pass him, would be if his tires went off a cliff. Leclerc was slow because he didn't want top 4 to pit. Alonso was slow to allow Stroll to pit. I assume Yuki had the same game plan as Russ? He was a whopping 1-minute off the car in front of him (Lewis?). You never see the 8th place 1-minute off of 7th place on pace alone. Honestly, just a really weird race where nobody wanted to drive fast.

Let’s Sainz win in Australia to complete the narrative of his comeback from surgery and get him a better drive for next year, let’s Lando get his first win to break the narrative that he cracks under pressure and can’t get a win, and let’s Leclerc win to finally break the curse at Monaco and win his home race. Considering how happy he looks when someone else wins, he obviously did all of those on purpose🗿

I think the most exciting part of the race (after the first lap incident) was when Sergeant (I think) just followed close behind the lapping car of Norris to pass I think it was Zhou, it was cheeky of him, possibly the greatest peace of racing we've ever seen from Logan in F1.

@@teamknightbot He had much fresher tyres, where everyone else changed tyres after the Red Flag, Sergeant stayed on Hard Tyres, with Williams knowing he'd need to stop. By the end Russel was catching up to the front pack with 70 lap old mediums.

yeah absolutely disgusting... i wish they would add a rule for a second mandatory pitstop or so (just for monaco). so they dont really need to go slow on purpose. i mean okay this one was extreme because of that red flag, but even tho. this race is stupidly boring anyway. i hate it when they go like 2-3 seconds slower than they actually could do, just because they can. nobody makes errors if they are in their comfortzone.

I’ve taken to not watching races live this year. I figure out how good the race was and either just watch part of it, all of it, or none of it based on how interesting it was. And I can do something else with my Sunday. When there were fewer races, this wasn’t an issue, but F1 taking up near half of all sundays is just too much. So I only had to watch the one lap here. Watching a recording, I can also change the playback speed which is worth trying.

I will die on this hill. K-mag took an opportunistic move, inserting Alonso and Senna quotes here. But you(Perez) cannot just take a space where a car(K-Mag) is when the entire left side of the track is open.

On his onboard, you can see he glanced THREE TIMES into his mirrors, and definitely saw that Magnussen was there, literally less than a second before turning right.

This, all you need to do is watch the replay and look at the line on the road and it changes in relation to Perez car. He looked right, saw K-mag move up beside him and went I’ll drift right and squeeze him into the wall…. And did this after Kmags front wheel was past Perez back wheel, at that point there was no avoiding a collision because even if Kmag wanted to back out, he would have taken Perez’s back wheel.

Perez also can clearly be seen seeing that Kevin is on his right in his mirror and Perez has space where he could avoid the incident, both drivers not willing to yield so is a racing incident. The fact that Perez comes off very badly from the crash has a lot to do with people's opinions of the incident which I do understand

I agree. If it was some other race where overtaking is not so difficult, it would be a little overzealous, but here where every quarter opportunity has to be taken, it was an optimistic try. This wasn't some dumb dive bombing or something similar, and there was enough space for two wide if Perez allowed it. He didn't, and he got into the wall. Race incident, imho.

Yes, I heard Alex's call of Charles' last lap. The only time I listen to the clown (Croft) show is when I accidentally press the button on my phone screen that takes me there. I watch F1 Live TV from start to finish. Alex Jacques is far and away my favorite motor sport announcer. The whole team is professional and they aren't afraid to have a laugh.

I don’t think k mag deserved a penalty. Perez didn’t leave room. Both kind of screwed up, k mag maybe a little bit more. Honestly, I think Matt should be thanking Magnussen and Perez. Leclerc was going to need to fend off two fast McLarens for a full race and hope his strategy was better than both of the non papaya cars. I was on edge for the first lap with Piastri glued to Leclerc’s rear and Sainz out. Watching Leclerc defend against two fast McLarens would have been amazing. Matt might have had a heart attack without that first lap red flag.

Kevin had more momentum than Perez, Perez had plenty of empty track, and Casino Square is a good place to overtake if you can compromise your opponent's line. Perez checked his mirror, saw KMag incoming, and closed the door too late

If you interpolate the different cameras, Perez did see K-mag and did move a bit to the left to leave more space. But at the same time from outside, you see k-mag moves a bit right in that instant bumps the barrier, bounces and hits Perez.

The road has three painted lanes all the way up the hill. Perez moves across from lane 2 to lane 3 when KMag was in Lane 2. There's an argument that Perez should have stayed in his lane!

I was quite looking forward to interesting Monaco Grand Prix where one Ferrari is out after lap 1 and Leclerc is left alone in strategy fight against two McLarens. Instead we got KMag, red flags, and 70 warm-up laps. Yay!

Was K-Mag's move silly: Yes Do I respect it: Also Yes K-Mag tried to overtake, he tried to race, in this supposed 'race'. God forbid a racing driver tries to race, in a race. But not at Monaco apparently. 4 Overtakes across the entire GP, 4. I can't help but respect that K-Mag tried, even if he failed spectacularly. The 2026 regs that make the cars smaller can't come soon enough for Monaco, we know from Formula E the track is still good, and still capable of fantastic racing, the problem is the F1 cars are too large, and can't race around it.

Universally, I think sticking a nose in a closing gap is a bad idea, but I def overall respect k-mag for going for gaps. Outside Max, the front of the field is super risk-adverse. I'm also looking forward to the 2026 regs, if drivers are afraid of going for gaps today, smaller cars should allow drivers to be more aggressive.

If two cars have any parts alongside one another, each driver must respect the space occupied by the other car. It does not matter who is ahead, nor how far they are ahead, they may not initiate a move into the other car. Both drivers have the right to continue driving in a straight line unimpeded. This rule is stated under sporting regulation 20.4. it was perez who turned towards magnussen.

People just don’t know once your front axel is at least alongside other car’s rear axel, you earned a space. It’s a universal rule for motorsports, especially on a straight. Of course it’s F1 fans that doesn’t entirely understand that concept

F1 pleassseeee! Develop unique tires for Monaco that wear out in 20-30 laps, allow drs in the under and get rid of the inside wall and put a curb there’s and move it back 6-8ft than normal to invite a lunge. Require 1 pitstop, mix and match those

Longtime fan of Matt and Tommy but I have a small request. I know that thumbnails are super important for content on KZfaq, but I'd try to avoid putting massive race spoilers into your thumbnail, especially when its posted the same day as the race. I've worked all day and really looked forward to watching the race when I got home, but being a subscriber I got a notification for this video and it completely spoiled the race. I mention this because it's not the first time its been spoiled in this way. I understand its Monaco and win from pole was to be expected, but this won't always be the case. Big love from Canada, and although you probably will never see this I hope you consider my point and maybe keep thumbnails (and titles) spoiler free, at least for day one. I can give this one a pass because Matt has really been gunning for this for a long time. Cheers :)

@@timokho20 You can't just ignore a car that's half along-side and follow the racing line though. Just like with a corner, once someone sticks a nose in, you have to give them space. Checo clearly saw KMag and then drifted over; trying to get KMag to back out.

@@atomictacco kmag wasn’t alongside him yet, and the track bends in there, checo just drove straight. No driver expects another to commit there and not back out. I also sincerely doubt checo knew kmag had better traction and would in any world go for a move there.

Okay - here’s my unsolicited rectal extraction for the Monaco GP: The race is now an “Historic Throwback” event, with a spec similar to the V10 turbo heyday - at first I considered the actual cars, but for safety and preservation reasons, it would be more apropos to have a “Throwback Spec” for the race, and maybe even an alternative scoring scheme; think match play in golf. Points for overtakes, laps led, most positions gained, and of course, final position. The thing would be exciting for drivers and spectators alike, and the cars could even be used in a Euro Pay Driver series or some such. At this juncture, anything, even Minis would be a better option than the current crop of Trash Trucks lumbering over the history of racing entirely. Think it through, and remember where to send the royalty checks. 😎

Can't wait for people to notice that It wasn't Perez that drove into magnussen, but it was magnussen who bounced of the wall (while still having enough space) and hit Perez.

Reason Magnussen didn't get a penalty is simple, the rules were technically on his side. If you are on a strait and a driver has his front axle ahead your rear axle you have to leave space for them. Monaco may be a special track, but unless otherwise noted standard rules apply. Was the move silly? Yes. Was it senseless? Yes. Would he have had to back off as soon as they got to the actual corner? Yes. Was it technically legal? Yes.

I'm sorry but it was just a boneheaded move by Kevin. It should never have been attempted, or it should've been aborted immediately when he could see he didn't have the drive needed to warrant Checo leaving space, but he kept going for it anyway and thus caused the accident.

This time, I don't think KMag was to blame. Perez had a shi**y start and was struggling after turn 1. KMag had to move to the right to dodge getting stuck behind a slow driver. Perez didn't need to squeeze him, knowing he had nowhere to go. The camera from behind shows Perez not leaving any room. For the 1st time, I agree with the investigation

@@Kaspa969 I looked at the onboard again and thats not true. If there was a touch with the wall it did not throw MAG back. There was no damage to the ad banners. When Checo moved over they touched wheels. And MAG did not have much space on the right.

yes, kmag couldve backed out, but there is no rule that he needed to. his fronts were past perez rears, he cant just stop existing there. perez saw him and drove him into the wall. and we have to decide: we say "ohh monaco is boring, no overtakes" etc., but then why are we wanting drivers to back off in every rightful opportunity. cant have both

Rules actually say that unless his front is level with Perez's front, Perez has right of way to the racing line

I know Stroll undid his race by clipping the wall, but watch his overtake on Zhou in the tunnel. He backed off to give himself a better angle to overtake and made sure he didn't sideswipe Zhou. Actually quite a brilliant overtake. He was alongside Zhou pretty well there, but he saw what was coming if he continued how he was. So he adjusted. I've seen that a lot from other drivers. Certain drivers just don't have that forethought or something. Kmag seems to only know one thing - aggression.

I think Kmags move was over ambitious, but Perez made the choice to squeeze him into the wall, look at Sainz and him giving Oscar space on turn 1, he got a puncture, but he didn’t push Piastri into the wall. Unlike Perez who looked right multiple times, knew Kmag was coming up, had gotten better traction out of turn 1 and decided to drift right and squeeze Kmag into the wall, while there were 2 cars width of space to the left. It was stupid defending from Perez against an ambitious move from Kmag, especially as Kmags front left was passed the right rear of Perez

Perez didn't squeeze him at all. He was literally driving in a straight line lmao. The barriers bend inwards at that point of the circuit and Kevin knows this.

I doubt perez knew that kmag had gotten better traction, im guessing that in his mind and anyone elses mind he didnt expect anyone in their mind to go for a move there, so he expected mag to back off, like any driver would. After that he just followed the racing line.

Perez knew he was there (he definitely looked in the mirror, Button picked up on it in the replay and instantly changed his mind on where blame should be applied) and decided not to give him the car width he's entitled to. I can sort of see why they called it as a racing incident because K Mag was daft to try it and Perez was daft not to acknowledge it and leave room, when both drivers have done something dumb then it's a racing incident. Just because you want the racing line it does not mean you can just keep moving over and expect the other car to disappear

@@_-TC watch the replay from Sergio's onboard again. He turns slightly right following the racing line to open up turn 3 that's coming up, completely ignoring Kmag. The wall closing in meant that gap closed extremely fast. Dumb move from both of them, completely unnecessary and avoidable.

Perez definitely had more time to see K Mag, and you could see him looking, especially in the slow mo replays. It was nothing compared to the Sargent incident, although my honest initial reaction was, "Well Sargent was a penalty, so probably"
