I think the #1 thing to prevent hypothetical futures from becoming dated is to avoid specific dates as much as possible. In Fahrenheit 451, the year 2021 is mentioned once but other than that, the date is kept ambiguous. The world of the book is the future from the point of view of the 1950s, sure, but still the book remains “timeless” in that the themes it presents seem to always be relevant. The topics of cens*rship and free thought were important ones in the fifties and are still important today, so it seems like they always will be. Unless you have a specific event or series of events that sets this future apart from our own, like in Fallout with the microchip not being invented and the great war.

They focus on the humor over the creativity. They subject your expectations by having this fancy looking robot vacume that you expect will suck up the trash, teleport it, disintegrate it..something stereotypically futuristic and simple. The humor..which I felt was good since it was such a copy of the Flintstones..which was a rip of of the honeymooners, that the focus on comedy in that manner for that gag setting it apart was a good thing. They both had appliance gags but one was the funny way they got creative with stone age resources and the other with how unglamorous the advanced tech really was. Even Rosie does everything a maid would do as a maid kf the time would do it. She hand wipes the windows with a rag. Sure she pulls the vacuum out of her torso..but then has to hold it, walk it around the apartment and endpy her dust compartment after. George has a computer coworker to replace all the other annoying coworkers who don't do their job well and get in the way..and what does Rudy do? Be annoying..get in the way..shoot the shit with George when they should be working.. tempt him with games or shows intead of doing his job..lol

As someone with a phobia of heights, I'd be terrified of living in the Jetsons universe as advanced as it is.

I don't think the writers are consciously consistent with the age of the characters and the era that they are living in just like most long running cartoons, especially those being massproduced in the dark ages as well as most writers aren't that good at math like passage of time. Many things get lost in communications between the writers and the fans tries to make sense of the mess by filling the gaps that leads to unintentional implications. Or maybe there are multiple Jetsons living in different multiverses with time machines. Also the average human gestation time is 9 months so Jane could still be 18 already from the conception but the internet would still be mad regardless due to age gap.

A pregnancy is 9 months. In the time the Jetsons was origionally made, it was not too unusual for a couple to be married at 18 and immediatly try for their first kid on their wedding night. It also was not unuasual to get married much earlier into a relationship. It was even more an expectation for the nuclear family and a wide who would be expected to stay home anyway. Part of that american dream standard you mentioned. Gender roles were more extreme than now so if George was already in his early 20s making a living as a single man, him marrying Jane not long after meeting once she turned 18 and still having their first kid before she turned 19 is very possible. It is not a future that seems very standard or attractive to most of us today but keep in mind this was the future of the 1960s. They were focused on conveinience, not social roles being the change. They imprinted what was not only standard but viewed as positive at the time on the show. I'm not justifying it as ok in the modern day, just that it wasn't likey to make Geaorge a pedophile or anything intentionally rash. This is part of why our society DID change. We had generations grow up seeing thier parents deal with the difficulties of getting married too young to people they didn't relaly know, expected to fulfill roles set on them they might not be best for. Those generations recognized to attempt avoiding that and became more sympathetic to concepts like divorce or pre marital living togther as a result. There are eloys of jokes in shows like the Jetsons addressing soem of the stresses that occur as a result but in a more light toned and comical way. Even in the show this along with many similar Hannah Barbara ones ripped of, the Honey Mooners, such real aspects were shown but purposely done without emotional stakes. The actress who played Alice once mentioned consulting Jackie Gleason about having the cahracter cry because of the hardship. Jackie (who based the premise on his own dysfunctional parents) stated this could not be the case as it would turn Ralph into a villain. If the rough position they were in being married togtehr caused her to break, then the main chatacrer would be too unlikable to be entertaining anymore and the show would end. It has to balance relayablity with escapism and the Jetsons did that for the time being..we just grew beyond that. I think the quote of George's you mention was a good way to handle things. Irs not infering Jane was underage but likly just too young to make a decision like that by the modern standards the new show was being made in. My grandparents were greatest generation and my parents boomers. My parents got married and had me ( the eldest) MUCH later than my grandparents did in life. My brother and sister in law followed in my parents footsteps and that the standard now. When my mom had my younger brother at 32 she was hold by the hospital this was a rarity and she was an "old" mommy. Mothers who waited until they were 28 to have their first kid did not have others. My brother was born in 1992 by the way. I think if anything, George is a bit progressive for an 80s reboot. By that point they still make Johnny quest villian Doctor Zim and he was still a fu man shu knock off.

The actual theory is that Elroy's time machine did not actually work. It malfunctioned and the explosion threw the family outside onto the ground where the Flintstones live in a stone age dystopia with mutated animals that can speak.

When they reached ground level, well why would they question that the device wasn't working as intended.
