I think that the 1p and £2 are definitely for the chop first then the 2p

In 10 years, we will have a 25p, 50p, 1 pound and 5 pound coins only. The others will be phased out gradually between now and then.

Australia got rid of 1 & 2 cent coins in 1992 -So smallest denomination here is 5 cent (same size as a Sixpence) I often find them on the ground as people cant be bothered to pick them up if dropped 2 Dollar coins are smaller than 1 Dollar & generally I end up with more of them in my pocket. In UK -1 & 2 pence will be gone Very soon 20p is a Handy coin but 2 pound should have been made smaller there ( Not as Crappy as it looks now) Ten years is a Long time -I predict ALL coins will be gone within that time As that is what "They" want. UK will never go to the Euro Thanks for all your Vids -especially Penny Hunts

The reason to price things something &99p is to make sure it goes through the till and not the cashiers pocket . Not such a worry these days, when the 1p goes the others will follow soon after

For literally centuries the pound sterling was a stable currency. Now, in a century or less it has become worthless to the point that one pound equals about 2d of the old pre-decimal coinage. Politicians have discovered an amazing business while people lost their national currency.

Will we go the same way as the Canadians? Some years ago they got rid of physical 1 and 2 cent coins but still used them in item pricing. When the bill was reckoned at the till they vanished. If the bill ended in a 1, 2, 6 or 7 cent, the bill became reduced to the nearest 0 or 5. e.g bill of 5.72 became payable as 5.70. Similarly bills ending in 3,4, 8 or 9 cents were rounded up to the 0 or 5 cent. Card-settled bills remained with digits unaltered. Is it possible that the £5 coin will enter circulation as did the £1 coin did on the demise of the £1note?

I agree with all your predictions Paul... The penny is worthless but we shall still need it all the while items cost 15p, 95p, 9p or 99p etc--- (even though i am sure that many just throw them away when returned in change) In contrast the 2p would never be required in transactions.. and yes, what ever was the point of the 20P.... i guess we might have thought the £2 would take pressure off the £1 but everyone seems far more comfortable with the pound.. in time i feel we will just have the 10p, 50p and £1; i dont think we would ever opt for the Euro--- but you never know.

Quite a few countries have done away with their lower minted denominations, so likely we will lose the 1p and 2p before long, and any cash transactions would have to be rounded up or down to the nearest 5p, but cashless payments will retain their amount. So e.g. a cashless payment of say £10.02 will be debited from the customer's bank account, but a cash payment would be rounded down to £10.00. £1 coins are very much a requirement in shops, so that will stay. £2's more than likely will go, as will the 20p. I reckon the 10p may also be reduced in size as costs of coin manufacturing will increase. Think I'll save this in my liked videos and will return to it in 5 years time, provided I'm still on this mortal coil 😂

The 50p and £2 should be kept - but maybe only commemorative, not definitive designs., Ditch the 20p and replace with a 25p/quarter coin. Also bring in a circulating £5 coin to replace the note.

Agree CP on the 1p and 2p, surely their days are numbered. Think we might just make it to the end of the decade before the 5p goes.

I think the 1ps & 2ps are for the chop fairly soon, and those new ones with the dormouse & squirrel on will become very collectable. Reason being a red squirrel & dormouse are pretty rare in UK as it is. The Mint sending a subliminal message.

I don't know about the UK but here in the states there is no political will to eliminate any of the denomination. That says something being that it costs more to mint both the cent and five cent coin.

In 5 years we'll still have 10, 50 & £1. In 10 years all coins we be gone (digital currency) and only available via the usual Royal Mint cash grab sets.

I totally agree on the £2 coin. I believe that will be the first to go, it was an over indulgence from the mint in the first place. I also think this will bring about an overhaul to our currency completely eventually where we will only have the 50p, £1 & the newly struck 25 pence coin which will also mean in the next five years we will lose the 1,25,10 & 20 pence too

I mean to be fair you're not wrong because the penny was only ever used until 1967 and then after that it became practically worthless, and same with the five pence and 2 pence coin. No need for them at all but I will miss the two pound coin if it does go out of circulation

I know blokes here in Australia who do transactions in old High silver content British sixpences & Thrupney bits (Sixpences are worth $2 -I think) & Tokens from the US (Almost Blanks which go for about $10) I have also been shown a "Ten Pound" 1 ounce GOLD coin with QE2 head cost about $3000 A fella told me Cash is a Con Barnsie a plastic $100 note costs 34 cents to make

some fringe groups have tried that in the usa... there are voluntary goldback currencies (notes with gold printed into them) in the states of new hampshire, nevada, utah and wyoming

If the 1p goes then the 5p has to go with it , I.E Somethig is 14p , How would you give the change if 15p is given ?

You simply set the price at 15p (or in increments of 5p).

I agree that the 1p, 2p & 5p will disappear but I think we will still have the £2 at least for the next five years. I think the chance of a £5 coin is pretty slim considering how easy as compared to a £5 note for forgeries to be made. My own thoughts as collecting goes, is to start holding on to the £2 Britannia coins which like as the present day are difficult to find. Not only scarce but in my eyes the most beautiful coin the Royal Mint has made and issued in the lifetime of decimal coin issued.. Happy New Year Paul to you and Sue..

I did not realize there is a 2£ coin in circulation.I agree on the penny and 20 pence coins being phased out.They just are not needed.I hope the £2 coin stays in circulation.I don't have any so it would be nice to acquire some before they are taken out of circulation.I also hope the U.K. does not change to the Euro coinage.You have a great history of coinage that I would not want to see end.

No modifications are required. If paying by card, you can pay the exact price. If paying with cash, 1p and 2p will be rounded down at the till while 3p and 4p will be rounded up. They’ve been doing this in Canada for a decade with no issues.

A 25p coin might be a good substitute for both the 20p and 50p coins, as it is more versatile. The 25 cent quarter has long replaced the 50 cent coin in America, even if the 50 cent coins are still technically in circulation… though I haven’t received one in change for well over 20 years. Funnily enough, the USA had both 2 cent and 20 cent coins in the 19th century, but they only lasted briefly because they simply weren’t needed. Other coins could substitute to achieve the same value.

All the youngsters here just "Tap & Go" they dont like to use real Money They forget a surcharge is generally put on top But they dont care. Even little Kids walk by Tiddlers that have been dropped as they have no use for them.
