I'm hoping they can create more sustainable materials, and biodegradable fabric. Reduce landfill waste and pollution that quick fashion companies cause.

I'm excited for the sustainability aspect -especially on big players like Kering. That materials innovation lab might be a huge advantage for its brands. Imagine if Bottega Veneta offered a highly engineered vegan leather option for all its future products. What about bacterial and reconstituted fibers? Milk fibers for example that have certain skin and pH properties. The luxury sector of fashion will I think in the near future will feel the responsibility and desire to sponsor these exclusive innovations so that they get the R+D they deserve to be eventually made for everybody.

I agree! The luxury space has the money to do so, and once they make this a regular thing, it will make it more affordable for smaller brands, and fast fashion companies to adopt which would decrease the poor labor standards that the industry currently holds.

"when it comes down to it, the ultimate end user for any of these is human beings." (5:21) - a discussion I'd like to see expand: to what extent is nature and technology exploitable to human beings?

Interesting. But I hating plastic waste production of the fashion seasonable "trendy - manipulated" industry :( More than fascinating fashion is sustainability = ecoLOGICAL future trends for the green - thinking generations. Earth is a smallest and rarest LIVING PLANET of the universe for the consume fashion theatres….
@princess7strawberry
@princess7strawberry 6 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. I would be all for this progression of fashion and technology, but as someone who is transitioning to a zero waste lifestyle, all I see from this video is more production waste. If they had made the case of how this technology would be used to support sustainability (perhaps, less clothing would be worn out and thrown away, material used is from recycled waste, tech clothing- such as the phone-charger and heater mentioned- is self-charging by solar, etc.), I would be more on board with this. And I do feel that this fashion tech is perfectly capable of implementing eco-friendly features and practices within their business. Ecology compliments fashion and technology so well, that it could be adopted so easily so easily by these creators and should be emphasized just as much as the art and science aspect of it.

its cute that theyre excited about 3D printing and people being able to print out t-shirt designs they find online. its like how people have a phone and instagram and think they are photographers and people who install music production software on their computer and think theyre DJ's. as soon as there are 3D printers people will be printing their own clothes instead of buying branded stuff. oh and as for buying and downloading designs online? there comes piracy. your elite fashion cult industry is soon going to have everyone invited. brands and fashion designers will become obsolete. i'll just watch a video tutorial of how to use this software that controls a 3D printer and make my own stuff because it will be that easy and cheap. please keep being nieve and investing in your destruction, i've always wanted to make my own clothes.

Ultimately it comes down to the end user, you, to have agency. The tools are actually available today, it is no longer unfeasible for you to start your own economy through creation. Sure, the idea of Instagram being the sole proponent of a photographer is absurd to some, but it is precisely the professionals that pass up these new opportunities that go under the table. It's through innovation and branding, that you can monetize your ideas to people who rely on convenience, ease and consumption. As said in the video, you have to be fast in today's industry; otherwise you'll lose to those who can appeal to a wider audience in a shorter period of time using less resources.

+JamieA242 Yes everyone can be a photographer, a musician and make their clothes but always will have someone that highlight in the crowd. The cheap design, the bad music will be forget in the time while the great still be admired. There no difference just more competition.

It’s not that simple... for starters, not everyone has the eye for design and will want to purchase designs online. Second, not everyone will likely get access to design softwares to make their own designs for a long time or even understand how to use them. Third, even when this becomes the case, online designs will then reach the same level as music. Songs are downloaded illegally all the time, but there is so much more attached to music in popular culture than the song that it will still be profitable as an industry. And lastly, people will probably turn back to traditional manufacturing processes from time to time when it becomes “retro” like vinyl.
