I too am cutting back on doll purchases for at least a couple of months. I have been knitting more too and really like the book that you showed, it looks like there are some fun items to knit from the picture on the cover.

It feels like I have made a lot of purchases over the last couple of months so could definitely do with a breather from it all. I want to be able to enjoy the dolls that I have and maybe curate my collection to a more manageable size. I will hopefully be doing a knitting video at some point in the future, I do enjoy knitting and at least knitting clothes for dolls is quicker than knitting clothes for humans.

I definitely want to show some love an appreciation for the dolls that I already have. Sometimes doing unboxing videos can feel like a conveyor belt and you've no sooner unboxed one that another has come along that needs to be unboxed. Wishing you a fabulous 2024 too!

I will be cutting back on buying as well. I will be losing my job soon😢. Like you I have a bunch of dolls to unbox, so that is my plan for 2024. I still plan to buy dolls at thrift stores and antique shows. You videos could never be dull! You are entertaining without dolls. Happy New Year!

So sorry to hear about your job, I hope you're doing okay. Ela has introduced me to the idea of a "low-buy" year so that is what I'm aiming for. I think I'll probably always have a few boxed dolls in reserve but the amount that I currently have is ridiculous. Hope your 2024 is full of nice surprises for you, you definitely deserve some xx

Lol the beginning... 😁 you make me laugh! I agree about omgs dolls' hands, they are fantastic! I will definitely buy a lot less dolls this year. I still have unboxed dolls too, not as many as you, it is mainly SH/RH and omgs. I am running out of space and this profusion of "everything" is becoming a stress. I will of course not have a no buy year. It would be great but it is simply impossible and totally unrealistic but I want to moderate my enthusiasm! I also want to reconsider my doll collecting, the impact it sometimes has on other areas of my life etc etc. I enjoy this hobby. It brings me a lot of fun and joy but all this accumulation does not necessarily make me happy. Happy New Year! 🥳

Yes, it can all get a bit much. I like having "stuff" but also I like having that stuff in it's place without it being everywhere. Like you I'm not going to be making any big "no buy year" plans either but as has been suggested elsewhere (by Ela) a "low buy" year is much more preferable. Buying dolls should be fun and bring joy but I guess it is all in moderation. Hope you have am amazing 2024 too!

I think this year many of us are trending towards enjoying the collections we have. I think unboxing dolls you have already purchased will be fun to see. I plan to slow down on new doll buying unless it is a good thrift find it like you say something unique or unusual. I also plan to hand sewing clothes for my dolls. I look forward to seeing how creative we can all be this year! Happy New Year. 🎉💕

Yes, it definitely feels as though a lot of us have the same idea when it comes to our collections this year. I feel similarly to you about thrifted dolls, it feels different from buying new full price dolls, also you're essentially giving those once loved dolls a new lease of life and chance to be loved again. It does sound there is going to be a LOT of sewing and clothes making going on for us all this year. Wishing you a fabulous 2024!

I need to organize my collection too. I'm disappointed with the direction of Rainbow High so that might change how I collect. I primarily collect Rainbow High and Shadow High. I have so many to unbox and a few I still want to get for my collection. I'll need to open one or two month as well. I have some Barbie Extras in box too, so that will be fun to do as well.

I shouldn't be surprised that I have so many dolls to unbox, after all I bought them! But I still am kind of shocked. They mount up so quickly and sometimes it's just too easy to buy them and then put them away somewhere. When I was counting them up it felt like I was doing a full-on stocktake. I guess we'll have to see what happens with RH and SH, obviously we can still enjoy the ones that we have already and in many ways it makes them so much more special because we might not ever get this kind of quality from the line again. I bought almost all of my Barbie Extras when they were going cheap, definitely glad I have them, now I just need to get them open! @@MarchPaynesMidlifeDollyCrisis they really do add up quick. I have a giant stack of Rainbow High, Shadow High, and Monster High dolls behind me in my office. They are a reminder that I need to slow down and enjoy the dolls I have before I buy more, but then a clearance sale happens and more get added to the pile. Haha. I also bought a few Barbie Extra dolls and they were on sale too, too cheap to pass up. Glad I got them so I can enjoy the line even if it's gone away. It seems so much is changing this year and I'm hoping we get some really nice dolls out of it all. I'm especially looking forward to Venus from Monster High.

I'm in the same place as you; I'm not doing a no-buy year, but it will be a low-buy year. And I'm going to focus more on crafting for my dolls. That's where my artist heart lives anyway, so it makes sense to share more of what I do.

Low-buy year is definitely the way to go, the idea of "no buy" immediately puts my back up and brings out the "no one tells me I can't buy anything" side of my personality and then I'll end up buying EVERYTHING just to prove a point! The idea of doing more with the dolls that I have is the way I want to go in the future for sure.

That is definitely the way to go. I will definitely be buying fewer dolls and trying to do more with the dolls I already have. I also feel I need a purge but I'm not sure I'm strong enough to get rid of any.

Yes, there definitely seems to be a consensus to ease off on the doll purchasing from the rest of the community at the moment. It does feel like it's been a heavy few years with little respite from doll releases, now it feels like it's time to take a little breather.

I actually think it would be good to see a different kind of video, like restyling instead of just unboxing. It gives more dimension and depth to the dolls already collected and helps with wanting to go out and buy the next new thing. I’d love to see your creations. I’m hoping to start making new outfits for my dolls this year.

Completely agree. I want to appreciate the dolls that I have in my collection rather than just moving on to another unboxing, that said this year will also involve a lot of unboxings if I want to get the majority of what I have out! Good luck with making new outfits for your own dolls too.

Ahahaha! The beginning! Always a joy seeing your videos pop up! I also won’t be getting any more dolls. Unless it’s some super creepy mystery have doll that I find somewhere, but honestly I have no room for anything else! Poopsie Surpise…I can’t!!😂 It always makes me laugh. The idea of something called Poopsie Surprise is quite mind boggling to me. They settled on that name, that name was chosen out of all the names they could have had. And what's the surprise? Well, apparently it's slime being pooped out which isn't a great surprise if you ask me. Also if anyone does poop out slime they should call a doctor immediately.

Loved this chit chat type of video, it wasn't dull at all. :) really good to set out goals for yourself at the beginning of a new collecting year, I'm definitely with you on not really being all that interested in purchasing new dolls as new releases in general don't seem all that interesting.

Except for the odd Monster High doll or a couple of the new Barbie Looks line, there doesn't seem to be much that I actually want doll wise. I guess we'll see how the year goes but I definitely don't feel that I'll be going as overboard as I have been. But I guess we'll see!

This sounds like a great plan for 2024. I look forward to seeing what you do with your doll collection this year. I signed up for Rachel Hoffman's Ellowyne Wilde Subscription Box this past year, and it's quite the event to get a new outfit every month. I have tons of clothes now for a few dolls so it's fun and creative to dress them and pose them in different situations. Those dolls - well I couldn't afford to have more than a few. For the most part I keep only a few dolls out at a time. I don't have a display room like a lot of folks. Works for me. Happy New Year!

Despite everything I said about trying not to buy too many dolls this year I have to admit that I would love an Ellowyne Wilde doll. They feel pretty hard to come by and pretty expensive too so she might have to go onto my grail doll list. It's so much fun to redress dolls and have them out on display, it's also nice to have a curated display of just a few dolls that you enjoy having out. Sometimes with large doll displays you can almost get doll blind and not appreciate any of them because there are too many for you to see. Wishing you a fabulous 2024!

I understand what you mean about the new Rainbow High. If they move forward with these dolls, I won't be purchasing anymore. Just a personal preference, these new designs aren't my cup of tea. L.O.L Surprise have also kind of lost me lately... but we'll see there! I've found a new love for Chinese art/bjd dolls, so my focus has been there lately haha. Loved hearing about your collecting plans! 😁I get what you mean completely! The boxes pile up pretty quick, I'm also an out of box collector!🤣

I think we'll have to just see where RH goes from here, maybe this is all a way to introduce doll lines within the whole Rainbow World world, but I feel that it would be hard to then go back to having high fashion dolls and forgetting that the slime pets and gimmick ever happened. The releases for the LOL Surprise dolls seems quite erratic over the last few years, they seem to have concentrated much more on the Tweens. I like the idea of art dolls or bjds but they can be so pricey so I'm trying to go a different route.

All my dolls are my favourite - particularly when I've just unboxed them. It would be way too hard to pick a top ten so I'm not going to even try.

I was honestly in two minds over the Anniversary Sindy, but at the end of the day I wanted to support the brand so this felt like the best way of doing that. Plus the more I saw the doll the more I liked her. Looking forward to seeing the different direction that your doll collecting takes, I'm completely with you with wanting dolls which are a bit more special. I'm not going to be going down the BJD route because I'm not made of money but the idea of adding unique dolls to my collection is definitely the way I want to go too.

Happy new year to you too! I'm probably at a point where I don't need to buy a new doll for the entirety of 2024 because I have so many to unbox. That said, like you, I will still get dolls that I really want, I just think there will be less of them this year. Obviously this is famous last words!

I feel like having some dolls still to unbox is perfectly acceptable, after all it's good to have some emergency video content on standby at all times! I think 10 is perfectly fine. I have probably been too precious about never opening any dolls unless I'm videoing it. In a way it takes away the immediate joy of actually opening a new doll so maybe I should do that more. Yes! Missed you too. I will actually feel so relieved when I have the majority of mine unboxed, even though I know it's going to take the whole year, if not longer. I'm trying to open one Barbie Extra, one RH/SH and one LOL doll every month to try and get through them.

It'll be cool to see your doll collection and clothing videos. I'm the same, where I want to collect more unique things. I've also been purging a lot of toys for the sake of space. I had to combine the stuff I bought while living abroad a few years with my collection at home, and it's too much stuff for me, but it makes me less inclined to buy as many of the cheaper and more mainstream dolls. This year I hope to get rid of more dolls than I acquire, or at least even out.

I know the feeling. I had two big boxes of my older doll collections which have been in storage for a number of years since moving to Ireland. I really want to get them out and sort through them. Because they are essentially two sets of different dolls I am looking forward to going through them and hopefully making a couple of videos on them eventually. Space is always an issue but I think having a more streamline collection of dolls that we actually love and do things with is better than loads of random dolls that we end up doing nothing with at all.

Happy New Year!!! I love all the different dolls you show us and look forward to seeing your creations! I plan on buying at least 1 silkstone doll in 2024 and of course 1 or 2 from the 2024 looks line. Mattel will be doing that for 2024 and I do not own any silkstone dolls and enjoy the Barbie looks line very much.

All the silkstone dolls look so special, it's great that Mattel put so much effort into them. I will also be buying at least two from the next Looks line, despite the fact I still have most of Wave 2 to unbox!

I'm starting to believe that we're ALL on the same page this year when it comes to collecting and being more selective and buying less. The last few years seem to have been full of release after release after release with no respite. Maybe this year will be a bit of a breather for us so we can reassess our collections and appreciate the dolls we've been buying for the last few years.

Happy New Year! Like you I’m going into a low buy year. Not interested in the new RH dolls, not a fan of the Kardashians and so not a fan of Bratz. I have a stack of 10 items (dolls and play sets) to open. I have a couple Barbie The Movie dolls I’m waiting to be delivered (Weird Barbie and Kenough and I just got the Barbie cowboy suit one!!)…I’m not ruling out buying any but I think I want to get more collectible dolls.

I find it fun to buy play line dolls, I know some doll collectors literally just concentrate on buying collector or art dolls and that's fine too but for me I like a doll that I am not afraid to pick up or take outside and pose in the garden etc. With that said the downside of play line dolls is the sheer volume of them and it's easy to over buy. I definitely want to add a bit of depth to my collecting, but I'm not quite ready to go down the BJD route just yet.

I’m never gonna be an inbox only collector- I want to “play” with them (photo shoots, make clothes, restyle) so I’m not into spending beaucoup $$$ on them. 🤗🤗🤗 But I can see that I might want another Blythe or two and maybe any special dolls that are created in the future (I’m still kicking myself for not getting Stevie Nicks when I had the opportunity). 🤗

I’m the same I am buying different dolls and I’m changing my collection - I am re organising my baby dolls and selling some of those and I’m trying to organise my fashion dolls dolls too - I’m like you I’m not saying I’m going to not buy dolls but I’m going to try and buy less 🤣🤣🤣

They can pile up so easily and sometimes it's just too convenient to click a button and order a doll online. It's good to have a reset and clear out every so often, so many parts of our lives can end up getting cluttered. Let's all have a happy "low buy" year! (An amazing phrase which I've borrowed from Ela who introduced me to it.)
