You have to remember that the 959 was a purpose built rally car, it was a modified AWD 911 with more power and experimental technology on it that made it an absolute unit in the Dakar rally. Another thing is that the 959 has a longer rear, that’s false, it was basically just a facelifted 930 rear to fit the new stuff in the engine bay.

Everyone will pronounce other languages differently based on their own language. Even English speaking countries will pronounce English differently, so Germans do pronounce English words differently... just like Americans pronouncing German words differently. It's just how it is.

As many people have pointed out, Porsche has included their cars in the WRC. Been in Rally since 1965. People baby their Porsches but they’re really durable and well put together cars that can and have displayed great performance off road.

100% correct about pulling away trying to make the DB level a little quieter. You have to remember this is a full on race car. There are no cats, no resonators, there’s barely a collector at the and of the header.

It was designed to go off road, desert racing. It's a crawl gear for when it gets stuck in the sand. It has adjustable suspension for better clearance, too.

The g gear also is for driving in heavy rain or snow. Gives better weel control when need slow better traction. Way back in the 60s the g gear was also called a ( granny or grunt ) gear is some trucks.

The G gear was added to pass Europes sound regulations so the gear labeled 1 is actually 2. And the 959 was mainly built to race on street circuits under the new Group B regulations which never happened. Group B needed at least 200 cars built for Homologation while Group A needed 2000 and Group C were the prototypes which needed no Homologation.

New bronco comes with a crawler gear. It's pretty cool you can be clutch out at like 2 mph. Useful in stop and go traffic

The real reason, as stated on the plaque in the porsche museum in Stuttgart is, that the 959 was Porsches entry into rallying and needed to be able to deal with sandy ground and bad terrain. The car has adaptable suspension for the same reason. There is only so much you can change between the production model and the race car for it to still be considered the "same car" so that's what they went with. Source: visited the museum
