Well he was talking to someone who -while gambling with his wealthy family's money- found himself up 2.5 million dollars. How is the average person supposed to get up 2.5 million dollars?

@@robtberardiWork hard for a while, save harder. Two household 6 figure salaries out of college. Make 200k annually, spend 25k. At some point pay off your modest home and Camry, quit your jobs, get 3 percent on 1 million to live on, use 500k to buy a couple of investment properties, continue to save. You'll keep up with and supercede inflation and never touch your capital.

We need John Goodman to make as many films as possible while we still have him

I agree totally. It's also how amazing his appearance can fluctuate per however much he weighs at a certain time. He's been a big fat guy for most of his career but he can also pull off just being a tall chunky guy and look good in either incarnation. The fact that he loses his face and neck fat inspires me to take it easy and drop some pounds.

Its interesting to see and hear Goodman in this scene. He gives mark EVERY CHANCE to get out. He wants to understand and he wants to help him. But he also recognizes addiction and knows that he can't be gentle about it. Especially after hearing how deep he was in for. I think that's what makes his last scene in the movie so poignant. Offers free money, a free ride because he is a man of principle, and still gets turned down. He's like a proud parent that see's their child actually learn a life lesson.

Goodman doesn't get enough credit for his craft. In my eyes he's up there with greatest of the greats. Not because he's got acting chops like Daniel Day Lewis but because John Goodman has presence. He's got this unbelievable force that demands your attention and to me thats badass

I continously come back to this movie, this scene especially. Sometimes I even keep it running on loop in the background of my living room on my tv. This movie put me off of gambling, useless debt build accumulation, and taught me never to waste a second chance. "you get up, you get out." -loan shark

It's only one side of the coin, my friend. Some people having nothing to lose. So you take risks cause in the end everything we know, have, ever will be is nothing. You just have time, and the free will use it how you want. You do the best with the cards your delt but just because you get up, you're never out. You just sit at a different table best thing you can hope is you're comfortable where you sit. Only way out is when your time is up and someone else will take your seat. No nuts, no glory. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. A tale as old as time itself. A life not lived is not worth living. However. what do I know? I'm just another player in this life gambling with time. Life is gamble just with different chips and different cards.

@@jacobstark3073 Yeah but life can give you good odds, a casino never will since they design the games, their business only makes profit if they take your money. And they're rich, they have experts in making sure it's almost impossible. In the real world there are gambles you can take with good odds but not in the casino.

Well this current financial system forces you to gamble. Due to inflation, you have to constantly chase interest and most interest rates are well below the inflation rate. Most you can find at any bank tends to be at maybe 4.5 to 5% if you're lucky. Holding dollars these days is like holding ice cubes. Now, if you go overseas with that amount, you can do this like a king.

John Goodman is just simply The Man for certain roles such as this and certainly the drug dealer to those with money in “Flight”. A lot like James Gandolfini was made for certain roles as well. The gay hitman on “The Mexican”, the stuntman single dad on “Get Shorty” and of course Tony Soprano. Roles that nobody else could have played with near the same perfection.
