In week 13 of the 2007 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers traveled to Texas Stadium in a match against the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams headed into the encounter with 10-1 record and the winner would take the lead in the NFC and potentially have home field advantage in the playoffs. Brett Favre started the game as he looked to continue his MVP caliber season however an injury would see him on the sidelines with backup quarterback Aaron Rodgers take over the QB duties.

i was at this game, it was my first and so far only NFL game i’ve ever been to. i was a huge brett favre fan and was so bummed when he got hurt but in hindsight it’s cool i got to see the beginning of the legend of aaron rodgers. i’ll never forget it took over 3 hours to get home from the stadium bc the logistics were so terrible, glad they got rid of texas stadium pretty soon after. the line to get a cab from the game was literally about a half mile long. the whole thing was unforgettable and i’m very lucky to have been there. edit: rewatched and had to mention that TO grabbing the popcorn and throwing it in his face was something i saw as it happened on the field and it was such a vivid memory bc i couldn’t believe he had just done that lol

I was there! I had got 10-yard line seats because my brother had a friend who had season tickets that couldn't go. It was a dream come true. I borrowed my Mom's badass DSLR camera and took lots of killer "old school" pix straight down the Cowboys LOS. When Favre got knocked out and Aaron came in I KNEW something special was happening. He came in COLD on a national Thursday night game and ABSOLUTELY killed it. I was like...wtf? Farve is done with the Pack. And he was. I actually found out I had single lobe pneumonia after that game but that was one of the coolest things I've ever experienced. The Cowboys won but JUST barely...

If you look on that interception, favre was hit after the ball was gone. He didn't step through like he normally would, but that still takes some off the ball. However, look how double covered the receiver was even if the ball had gotten to him. INT was still likely. This game, Favre was in his hard headed mode like he could be prone to do, and was determined to prove that he could go deep against Dallas. When Rodgers came in, he started going for the flats and shorter routes if the deep routes weren't there. And the Packers started moving the ball. Favre is one of the most liked QBs, but he's also one of the ones most likely to make things unnecessarily difficult for his team for his own entertainment.
@dstreetz91
@dstreetz91 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Favre could be one of the most enjoyable QBs from an entertainment perspective you really loved when he flung the ball deep and connected. This game though just shows the danger because it was obvious the cowboys defense was playing him for a fool with a lot of defenders deep to not let him connect and he got 2 INT's because of it. Rodgers though knows when to go deep or when to connect on a short slant or sideline catch and has pinpoint accuracy. Have to imagine him watching Favre do this for 3 years made him go yeah, not going to force it deep every drive when I can just connect on shorters passes or slightly downfield passes so easily.

@@dstreetz91 And this game was the birth of Favre doing his flip flopping and being petty with the team. General football fans, the media, and Packer die hard fans, the main subject up until this game was wondering how bad the Packers were going to be after Favre. And afterwards all of them shared, and for Packers fans it was an extra feeling of relief, a sense of "oh we're going to okay." He couldn't deal with that.

You can look like Johnny Unitas in practice and be a flop on the TV and stadium stage. Playing in practice you don't have the crowd of tens of thousands making so much noise that it's hard to hear anything on the road. That can absolutely break a QB if they aren't capable of handling it.

You could make this same video but replace Farve and Rogers with Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes in the game in Denver when Mahomes made his first debut against the Broncos. That is the game where we seen his first glimmer of what was to be the following year. Also in this game the Chiefs played without Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and only had number 3 and 4 receivers on the field because they had already clinched the playoffs spot and beating Denver didn't help or hurt them. But Denver played all their #1 spots and Mahomes was still able to drive the field and win with a game winning Field goal with no time left.

You can't really compare the two because they literally are playing in a different era of football because when Farve would get tackled the defender could pancake him. Aaron Rodgers is in the new rules where the defender has to fall off to one side or the other and not land on the quarterback which is night and day when it comes to injuries. With that said Brett Favre has the longest streak of starting games without missing one.
