Neverwinter Nights was the first graphical MMORPG to come out and it was AOL exclusive on PC. Getting a copy today can cost a pretty penny, but I got mine back in 2016 and it was the MOST MONEY $$$ I ever paid for a single game.
Neverwinter Nights on AOL was an early online multiplayer game released in 1991, based on the popular Dungeons & Dragons franchise. It allowed players to create their own characters, join parties, and embark on quests in the virtual world of Neverwinter. The game featured top-down graphics and a text-based interface, which required players to type out commands and communicate with others through chat rooms. Despite its limited technical capabilities, Neverwinter Nights on AOL was a groundbreaking title that helped popularize online gaming and laid the foundation for more sophisticated MMORPGs that followed.

Somebody should do the GameSpy treatment. I remember when GameSpy shutdown, the community set up third-party servers so people could still play multi-player on GameSpy-enabled games.

I used to play this on AOL....back when the player limit was 50. When AOL went to unlimited time, before that you paid a per minute fee. There were playes spending hundreds of dollars a month playing. I was there the Last day, as they eventually shut it down...it was a cool community, but unlimited put too much pressure on game and while they increased player limit..it could only support a few hundred at most. I still have the maps printed out somewhere. Ah the dial up days....

I really appreciate that you showcase old pc games. To me, it’s one thing that sets your channel apart. It was a big part of my childhood and there’s a lot of nastalgia there. So many of these games were so fun and their appeal was in the humor or the story or music because graphics wasn’t the main appeal then. So important to preserve and highlight this history.

You have a chunk of gaming history that holds a special place for a lot of people, for different reasons. Other than being the first (or second after Ultima Online, depending on who you ask) graphical MMO, it was a clear highlight of AOL at the time, furthering what PlayCable, GameLine and Quantum Link had tried to do, but ultimately failed at. The SSI Gold Box games are highly regarded for a reason, and NWN helped shape what would come later.

Expensive BUT very cool. I absolutely feel you, on the completing collection. Regardless of if it’s a videogame, Music Vinyl, etc. It’s a great feeling when you have a complete set of something, you’ve been collecting, for along time. I recently bought a Vinyl Album for £80 plus shipping from Poland to the U.K. I can’t even play my vinyl, right now but they mean the world to me and this particular Artist, is just incredible, all time fav producer. Beautiful music. I own all his MP3 release and I only need about 3 more vinyl to complete my collection. Speaking of collections, I’ve never bought a collectors edition of any game. Simply because I find them to be too expensive and I’m not too bothered about owning a big Kratos figure. Don’t get me wrong, it would be great to buy ever collectors edition of games I really like. The statue figures look great but like I said before, it’s too expensive. Although, if I bought 1, I’d probably end up buying some more and collecting can be addictive. Oh actually, I did buy 1 collectors edition game. Thumper for Nintendo switch. I bought it digital for cheap, not expecting much and I was absolutely blown away by the game and I actually bought collectors edition on eBay for £95. Didn’t come with a statue figure but it does come with nice large box, incredibly beautiful steelbook case (including the actual game) and some other cool stuff. I just started playing thumper in psvr2 and being in the game is truly epic. Especially when you come up against those incredibly huge bosses. I’m so hype md right now. I just got gt7 to play in psvr2 with wheel and cockpit. Switchback vr In 2days. Then walking dead saints and sinners pt1 psvr2 upgrade for about £7.99 which is a great deal. Especially as I got the game feee on ps plus. This is gonna be best gaming month of my life and if I buy resident evil 4 this month, I will be in gaming heaven.
