I was finishing up my Ph.D. at the University of Florida when this happened. I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was sitting in the living room floor with a bunch of paperwork and my laptop and was busy working while watching the Gators get walloped by this random nobody team. Fast-forward to today, and now I'm an assistant professor at Georgia Southern. Form "Go Gators" to "Go G.A.T.A."

The Gators were a 28 point favorite going into the game. The Eagles won by 6 in the end.

I remember watching this on TV going crazy when GSU pulled it off. One of my favorite GSU games ever!

I was at the game. I had just recently returned from deployment and we decided to make a road trip and meet family in Gainesville for a game. My wife at that time had never seen a game and I knew we were terrible that year but we all still expected to win. I remember trying to be cool the whole game but my step dad and I were both very angry. It was suppose to be this great family day we had all planned. That was the longest car ride back to Georgia after the game... I was in disbelief but congrats to GSU for shocking everyone, they earned it.

Are we not gonna talk about how beautifully Georgia Southern runs that Triple Option...

Georgia Southern football will get better again but when I saw that game. I was happy 💯

Definitely this loss hurts as a Florida fan, but at least a couple years later they appeared in the SEC Championship game before losing to Alabama. This loss if anything has fueled them to do better ever since, but since Georgia Southern also beat Nebraska it doesn’t make this loss as bad.
