Not great at pool? Well maybe you're just playing on the wrong table. Forget about the rectangle thing and upgrade to an elliptical where the math is on your side.
If you like this viode don't forget to subscribe :)

@gustavosantiago1543
@gustavosantiago1543 2 жыл бұрын
@@awsomnessnoveiws It depens on where did the ball came from. In this case it isn't a circle but a ellipsis, which means that any ball coming from one of its focus (the white mark) will bounce and reach to the other (the hole itself). Thus if the ball doesn't come from that white dot it probably won't make it to the hole as we see at the end of the video. Also if it were a perfect circle, both of the focus would be at the same place and you would have to shoot the ball from the hole (don't ask me how).

@@awsomnessnoveiws Maybe it will rebound to the hole, i don't know about that, but it wont do it in a satisfactory number of reflections (bounces) all the times. This works because of the properties of ellipses. They are defined by choosing two points, called the foci, and drawing the outer edge so that the sum of the distances from any point on the outer edge to the two foci is constant. That is, if you pick a point on the ellipse, the sum of the distances to the two foci is the same number. Due to this design, any projectile launched from one foci will bounce perfectly to arrive at the other foci. This is used in other applications also, such as lithotripsy (kidney stone breaking procedure) using the 3-dimensional version of this property.

For those of you not in the know, let me explain how it works. The secret is that the pool table is not a circle; it’s an ellipse (basically an oval). Ellipses have two foci with the unique property that the distance between them is the same as the sum of the distances between them and any singular point on the ellipse. What this guy did is he positioned the hole at one focus, and marked the location of the other with the little white dot.
