Really nice weather has everything growing flat out here in Nova Scotia this week. I figured I would head down to Creepy Hole Hollow and make my way to The Rooted Undercut to try making boiled coffee. I first learned about boiled coffee from watching Mors Kachanski videos. I’ve seen loads of people do it so I figured I would give it a go. I also observed the first Ganoderma tsugae of the season for me. It was a wonderful bit of time well spent. I hope you enjoy! #novascotia #bushcraft #ganodermatsugae #reishi_mushroom #coffee #beherenow #breathe

Taking things easy and just going with the flow is how I like to operate. Settling myself to witness this stuff is a pretty rewarding hobby. Sharing it with you and chatting about it is also a big part of the fun for me. Thank you for watching and commenting. I sure do appreciate it!

It was a very exciting experience for me. The coffee was excellent, I really enjoyed it. Add some semi rare mushrooms like G.tsugae and I’m locked right in my happy place. Thank you so much for watching and commenting Mark. I really appreciate it!

Nice find on the mushrooms Steve! I love me some cowboy coffee and like you said it’s pretty smooth for being boiled. Beautiful video buddy

Great video as always Steve! You sure know your mushrooms. I can't even pronounce some of those. And bush coffee is my favorite, always smooth and rich. I was gonna make some on a little fire this week but didn't get around to it, next hometime for sure, or maybe here in the truck! Anywho, this was a fun drift! Thanks for sharing with us!🙂

I would say this method of making coffee is worth giving a try. It was really strong but also far smoother than what I usually make. You have a great weekend too Bruce. Thank you for watching and commenting. I really do appreciate it!

Never heard of it before and twice in as many days I find out about cowboy coffee , the other guy did the water thing you mentioned so your gave me a second way. Thanks. Now if I could get those mushrooms down pat I'd be off to the foraging races lol. Have a great weekend.

I saw Mors Kochanski do coffee this way first in his survival pot he carried, but recently I have seen a few people doing it so I had to try it myself. I was really impressed with it. It was just Folgers but it turned out smooth and strong. The tapping method seemed to work pretty good and the grounds did fall to the bottom. There were some grounds in the bottom of my cup but not many. Mushrooms is a never ending learning experience for me. I like to go really slow and be really careful when it comes to what I would collect and use or eat. It is a very good feeling when you learn enough about a mushroom or any wild edible for that matter that you can confidently identify and harvest for the pan or your health. Thank you for watching and commenting Garry. I really do appreciate it.

What a relaxing video. Thanks for telling us you are in Nova Scotia..otherwise we would have to wait for a Celsius temperature or a proper spelling of neighbour to know we are even in Canada😊

I’m very glad you found the video relaxing. I had a very relaxing and enjoyable time experiencing this one. I always put in the title of my videos Northern Nova Scotia as an homage to my Dad. I am more precisely located in Cumberland County. Born, raised, moved away and always returned. I’m pretty fond of the province as a whole. Thank you for watching and commenting Evelyn. I sure do appreciate it!

Great working stove! Can't say I had much hope for boiled (cowboy) coffee but would try it based on your experience.

I’m normally a morning coffee only guy but I will make exceptions to try something new. For me the evening drink is Earl Grey tea more often than not. The Mushrooms were a great surprise. I’ve only gotten to know G.tsugae over the last 3 years. The first year I found some no problem. Last year I found very few but both years I found them in June so I was thinking I was likely a couple weeks early yet. Pretty grateful to have seen them and hopefully I can find some more to harvest. Thank you for watching and commenting here Pat. I appreciate it very much.

Great job finding the mushrooms. I've never found them, but hemlocks aren't common here. I might try cowboy coffee on your recommendation. I was afraid you'd have to use your teeth to filter out the grounds.

I was surprised with the cowboy coffee. It was strong and smooth. Nothing like what I’ve previously experienced for coffee. I did have a couple grounds in the bottom of my mug but not very many considering. I’ve seen people boil the coffees the run it through a basket filter in a pour over device. That way you escape any chance of getting a ground in your cup but it takes away a bit of the mystique around cowboy coffee. Thank you for watching and commenting. I really do appreciate it!
